Honest review as a Chinese: the noodles taste decent, but not quite authentic.

Some thoughts from me and some fellow Chinese peers:

  1. The portion is really tiny, like 1/3 of what you’d get in China. Noodle bowl itself should be a filling meal. This is what comfort food is all about, but even as girls we felt quite dissatisfied after the meal.
  2. The key flavor was missing from the Biang Biang noodle I ordered. The Chinese name of this noodle literally translates to hot-oil splashed noodle, and the soul of it is the aroma and flavor you’d get from splashing hot oil onto chili powder. I didn’t taste that from my bowl, and if you check the picture compared to an authentic Biang Biang noodle bowl, you can easily tell why.
  3. My friend asked for some chili oil as the taste was missing. We weren’t told that we’d be charged, and she only got one tiny dipping sauce dish of it - basically a spoon size. That came out to be 1CI.
  4. The noodles I got were a bit overcooked. The authentic style would be much chewier and won’t break as easily.

We all understand the cost of operation is high in Cayman, but it’s not a Chinese noodle experience if you don’t get full from the noodles and have to pay for a spoon of oil. It almost feels like walking into Tim Hortons, spent 4CI for a donut, found out it’s half of the size compared to home, and then got charged a dollar cuz you asked for some sprinkles.

With that said, the beef brisket tastes good. So is the tomato with egg. This is still the best Chinese noodle place you can find on the island. Just with some small improvements it could be a lot better.

Update: The owner reached out, and discussed my feedback with me sincerely. They are also making some changes. I appreciate their effort and the fact that they are showing Chinese food to local community. I’ll come back to try again, and share some...

Don't be fooled by the beards and Canadian accents for this is the most authentic noodle bar on the island.

Located upstairs in a strip mall on the busiest junction of the Georgetown Industrial area this unassuming little restaurant surpassed all mine and my missus' expectations.

Having each spent 6 years living in Asia we know our noodles and asian spices - these are the best noodles and dumplings either of us have found since I left Thailand and she left China.

The furniture reminds me of my favourite noodle bar in Thailand and, unlike most asian restaurants I've eaten at on Cayman and in Europe, the flavour base of each dish was perfectly asian.

The noodles are home made and are absolutely delicious - definitely warranted the "shlurp shlurp" sound as I hoovered them up.

The dumplings were sensational. Perfectly seasoned as not to over power the pork and somehow not over cooked either - an achievement worthy of a golf clap indeed!

Great food, super quick, huge portions, and super friendly owners.

I wish there were more establishments like...

We ordered dumplings, cucumber salad, tofu noodles and beef noodles. Everything was so tasty. The staff are super friendly. This is not the kind of restaurant for your afternoon tea or for a long lunch, not the most comfortable sitting but it is what a noodles place suppose to be. It takes a while for the food but I think it is because they make fresh for each bowl of noodles and it takes time.

All taste so wonderfully and really is something we need on the island, not another Italian high end restaurant but somewhere you can have the comfort food with close friends or family. One thing would be nice is if they have unflavored sparkling water as a choice.

All in all, we love this restaurant will definitely go back again and again....

We’ve been waiting for a year for these noodles and they did not disappoint! We had the Dan Dan noodles as a takeaway earlier in the week and they are my absolute favourite. Today we tried the Cumin Lamb which is such a great flavour combination, it tasted so fresh and delicious. The dumplings are not-too-miss with the chilli sauce. Finally, the egg tarts for dessert exceeded expectations and were some of the tastiest we’ve had in recent memory. I cannot wait to come back and try every noodle dish on the menu!
