This was my second visit to Casa43. I came here a year ago and gave it five stars, but unfortunately, this time the experience didn’t live up to expectations. Things have really gone downhill since my last visit.
The food at Casa43 is genuinely good — flavorful, well-presented, and definitely worth trying. However, the overall experience was significantly overshadowed by the poor front-of-house management.
We arrived and were told there was about an hour wait. Fair enough, popular places get busy. But the manager at the front was incredibly unhelpful and dismissive. They don’t take reservations, and when we asked if we could leave and be called or texted when the table was ready, she said flat-out: “We don’t do that.” Instead, she told us to come back in 45 minutes.
We came back at the 46th minute (yes, one minute later), and she had already given away our table — with no apology, no explanation, just a shrug. There’s also nowhere to sit and wait, and outside you’re basically mosquito bait. They handed out mosquito spray, which is honestly not a great first impression. You’ll likely go home wanting a shower.
This is the kind of service that can ruin an otherwise good restaurant. For a place so highly rated, the lack of basic customer service is baffling. The manager at the front really needs proper hospitality training — she had zero courtesy or professionalism.
Food gets a 5, but service drags it down to a 2. Go if you’re patient and lucky — but don’t expect to be treated well...
Read moreA vibrant feast for your taste buds and eyeballs alike. There is a very good reason why Casa 43 is packed to the rafters with cheery patrons come dinner time.
Perhaps it is all the little skeletons that make this place feel so alive, or perhaps it is the top notch staff that are all eager to assist and quick with a joke; either way this is one of my favourite dining experiences on Grand Cayman. The colorful commitment to Diaz De Los Muertos is an absolute treat to behold. The attention to detail is tangible, from the decorative tiles on the inside of the door, to the sinks in the bathroom.
We dropped by for Taco Tuesday. Everything we ate was excellent. I can highly recommend the fried avocado tacos and the goat, as well. The streetcorn really hit the spot for a starter. I also hear the sizzling fajitas are to die for, but you'll need a bigger table to fit the whole lot.
And don't forget, this modestly sized restaurant has a tequila menu like no other. No jokes, there are hundreds of tequilas on offer, including sone of the rarest gems on the planet. If you can't make up your mind, just kick off with a frozen...
Read moreHave "ya" met Max? Oh, you must meet Max, larger than life personality of this establishment, nice guy as well. Casa 43 represents, in my humble opnion, a nice change of pace from tour typical Seven Mile eateries. The atmosphere jettisons you back into the heart of Mexico, dark themed, earthy feel, but absolutely festive in nature. Offers a kind of intimacy Mexican hospitality is known for. If, by chance, you have taste for tequila, ah my drinking friend, you've arrived. The bar is lined with a who's who of the finest agave spirits. The staff is very friendly, you dont feel like a customer, you feel like youre a guest, just lounging about, and enjoying libations, and the best of Mexican cuisine on the island. We stopped in for drinks and tacos, delicious. Amply filled, fresh to taste, and deftly spiced. I only needed two, but, if youre the ravenous type, 3 -4 would be perfect, and have you rubbing your belly afterwards. I enjoyed the food, and equally the atmosphere. After all, isnt that what you want?...
