Read more朝天宫(Chaotian Palace)位于南京市秦淮区水西门内,是江南地区现存建筑等级最高、规模最大、保存最为完整的明清官式古建筑群落26],素有“金陵第一胜迹”之美誉。朝天宫之名,由明太祖朱元璋下诏御赐,取“朝拜上天”、“朝见天子”之意,是明代皇室贵族焚香祈福的道场和节庆前文武百官演习朝拜天子礼仪的场所,与神乐观同为明朝最高等级的皇家道观。[1] 朝天宫是典型的明清殿宇式建筑,其建筑格局、样式、营造技术等是研究中国古代建筑尤其是明清建筑的重要而难得的实物资料,具有极高的历史、艺术和科学价值。朝天宫中为文庙,东为府学,西为卞壸祠。文庙正南有“万仞宫墙”照壁围绕,宫墙内为泮池,东西两侧各有砖砌牌坊,正面为棂星门,门内两厢东为文吏斋、司神库,西为武官斋、司牲亭等,过棂星门向北依次为大成门、大成殿、崇圣殿、敬一亭,大成殿东西两庑和走廊各十二间,敬一亭东有飞云阁、飞霞阁、御碑亭等。[1[3] 1956年,朝天宫被列为江苏省文物保护单位[4];1978年,朝天宫被辟为南京市博物馆[1];2005年,朝天宫被列为国家AAAA级旅游景区[5];2013年,国务院公布朝天宫为全国重点文物保护单位。春秋时期,吴王夫差在这里建造城墙,并设置冶铸作坊制造兵器,开办冶铸铜器的手工业作坊,建立了具有相当规模的冶铸作坊,并聚集了一定的固定人口,从而形成了原始城邑,后人遂将朝天宫所在的山称作冶山,城墙合围的城市叫冶城,冶城是南京最早的城邑之一。东吴时期,孙权在建业(今南京)冶山设置冶宫,铸造铜铁器。将冶山作为东吴制造铜铁器的重要场所。除制造兵器和用具外,据说也铸造铜钱。 东晋太元十五年(390年),于此建冶城寺。东晋丞相王导将冶山改建为自己的私人别墅,是为“西园”,当时的西园“果木成林,又有鸟兽麋鹿”,王导常于此召集文人雅集。据《六朝事迹编类》记载,当时冶山仍有冶坊开工,其时王导曾患重病,疾久不愈,方士戴洋进言:“君本命在申,而申地有冶,金火相铄(古代以地支配五行,申属金),于君不利”。因此,王导下令把冶坊迁至清凉山、石头城一带,他所患疾病居然不治而愈了。由于王导采取了保护环境的措施,使得冶山地区从此成为名副其实的风景胜地。冶山西有卞公墓、卞公祠。卞壸为东晋名臣,晋成帝咸和三年(328年)历阳(今安徽和县)镇将苏俊起兵攻打建康,卞壸率部抗击大败,父子二人同时遇难。...

That being said, it is a lovely place to go, especially a couple of hours before closing time. You'll be able to walk the cozy gardens in peace and enjoy the interesting exhibition indoors. It is a good place to relax after a long day, since the walls block most of the noise pollution coming from the streets outside.
