Sai Van Lake — Attraction in Sé

We enjoy walking along Avenida Republica, making use of the tree line and cobblestoned shaded path which runs alongside Sai Van Lake. This is a quiet and relaxed area in Macau to spend time if you are tired of the chaos of the Historic City Centre area.

One of the enjoyable things to see over the past 10 years is he build up of the casino skyline of the Macau Peninsula. From Sai Van Lake you can easily make out Grand Lisboa, Lisboa Hotel, Wynn Macao, Ascott Macau, MGM, Mandarin Oriental and others. It makes for nice views when sky conditions are favourable, both at day and night.

Another reason we enjoy browsing along Sai Van Lake are to see the handful of large colonial period buildings that have somehow survived the bygone decades and harder times in Macau during the 20th century. Some are dilapidated, others restored and kept in good order. At least one property, House #6, has a plaque with information about its original construction and architectural features (see pictures).

These heritage buildings are unknown to the tourist world and receive no tourist attention compared to the UNESCO World Heritage attractions and other colonial period buildings, like those found in St. Lazarus District and around Taipa Village.

Enjoy a leisurely stroll while admiring the Macau Tower, Sai Van Bridge, and distant views of Hengqin, Zhuhai, and mainland China. Alternatively, take Bus No. 9 and get off at Half Orange Bus Stop.
