The Shanghai Tower (上海中心大厦) is not just the tallest building in China—it’s the second tallest building in the world, standing at a jaw-dropping 632 meters (2,073 feet). Located in Lujiazui, Pudong, this architectural marvel is a testament to China’s futuristic ambition and engineering prowess. A must-see for skyline lovers. The Shanghai Tower is a symbol of 21st-century China, blending height, innovation, and eco-conscious design. If you want to see Shanghai from the clouds, this is your tower. It’s not just a view—it’s an experience of global architectural excellence.

The Shanghai World Financial Center is an iconic skyscraper and one of the must-visit landmarks in the city. Standing at 492 meters, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of Shanghai, especially from the observation deck on the 100th floor, which features a glass floor that gives you a thrilling view straight down. The building itself is a marvel of modern architecture and engineering, often referred to as the “bottle opener” because of its unique shape. It houses offices, luxury hotels, restaurants, and high-end shopping options.

It's no longer the tallest in Shanghai, but the view is still very worth it. The 100th floor is a little extra, but it's very worth it. The angled roof and floor viewing is unique. The 94th floor doesn't actually have much of a view, just the cafe. My only complaint is they have lots of models of the building...but none of them are bottle-openers! That's the nickname of the building and the only bottle-opener they have is a boring flat one. Come on, take one of those models and turn it into an actual bottle opener.

Shanghai World Financial Center

Not to be confused with Shanghai IFC.

The Shanghai World Financial Center (SWFC; Chinese: 上海环球金融中心) is a supertallskyscraper located in the Pudong district of Shanghai, China. It was designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by the Mori Building Company, with Leslie E. Robertson Associates as its structural engineer and China State Construction Engineering Corpand Shanghai Construction (Group) General Co. as its main contractor. It is a mixed-use skyscraper, consisting of offices, hotels, conference rooms, observation decks, and ground-floor shopping malls. Park Hyatt Shanghai is the tower's hotel component, comprising 174 rooms and suites occupying the 79th to the 93rd floors, which at the time of completion was the highest hotel in the world. It is now the third-highest hotel in the world after the Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong, which occupies floors 102 to 118 of the International Commerce Centre.5]

On 14 September 2007, the skyscraper was topped out and is 492 metres (1,614.2 ft),16] making it the 9th tallest building in the world and the fourth tallest structure in Mainland China. The SWFC opened to the public on 28 August 2008, with its observation deck opening on 30 August. The observation deck offers views from 474 m (1,555 ft) above ground level.[7]

The SWFC has been lauded for its design, and in 2008 it was named by architects as the year's best-completed skyscraper.[8 In 2013, the SWFC was exceeded in height by the adjacent Shanghai Tower,[10] which is China's tallest structure as of 2017. Together, the Shanghai World Financial Center, Shanghai Tower and Jin Mao Tower form the world's first adjacent grouping of three supertall skyscrapers.

HistoryEdit

Designed by American architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox, the 101-story tower was originally planned for construction in 1997, but work was temporarily interrupted by the Asian Financial Crisis in the late 1990s, and was later paused to accommodate design changes by the Mori Building Company. The building of the tower was financed by several multinational firms, including Chinese, Japanese, and Hong Kong banks, as well as by the Japanese developer and American and European investors. The American investment bank Morgan Stanley coordinated the tower's financing for Mori Building.

ConstructionEdit

Under construction in February 2006.

The tower's foundation stone was laid on 27 August 1997. In the late 1990s, the Pierre de Smet Building Corporation suffered a funding shortage caused by the Asian financial crisisof 1997–98, which halted the project after the foundations were completed. On 13 February 2003, the Mori Group increased the building's height to 492 m (1,614 ft) and 101 stories, from the initial plans for a 460-metre (1,509 ft), 94-stories building. The new building used the foundations of the original design, and construction work was resumed on 16 November 2003.[11]

A fire broke out in the incomplete SWFC on 14 August 2007.

Bought the 220 Tickets which included the exibition, don not buy this and exclude the exibition ticket its not worth it trust me. Takes around 15 minutes to Get from the Ticket purchasing counter to the 100th floor, queues werent a problem at all compared to The Oriental Pearl where it took almost an hour to get to the top. Elevators are super fast those with ear problems do take note. The views speak for itself the time i went was at 5pm so that i could catch both the Day Time and Night Time Sceneries, but the glare from the sun in the afternoon really affects the views of the Bund and Pearl Tower. if you want good pictures take good cameras. if you are going to wait for the night view dont bother waiting on top you can go down to the 94th floor and still make your way back to the 100th access is unlimited. (thats if you have the 94th floor ticket...
