This is my third stay in just the past year. Each for a week at a time so I think I've got a pretty good feel for the hotel.||The standout feature of the hotel is the sky-high view, which is of course stunning. But that's not the only reason I give the hotel high marks. Hard and soft products are both outstanding. ||Room - The standard rooms are spacious with plenty of room to stretch out with lots of storage options. A slight criticism could be that the furnishings are spartan and while it might be time for a refresh, everything is in very good condition and well maintained. The view and the windows are spectacular regardless of which direction you get. Bed, sheets, and pillows are excellent.||Bathroom - A separate section b/c the bathrooms are amazing. Separate room for the Japanese bidet/ toilet. The shower/ tub wet area is bigger than most bathrooms. And the water pressure from the rain bath is so good this is probably my favorite shower in the world.||Pool/ Gym - The pool and surrounding lounge area are one of my favorite areas to relax in the hotel. When I've arrived early and my room isn't ready, I just head for these loungers and sleep. Like the rest of the hotel, the view from the pool is stunning.| The locker room area has a dry sauna and a few showers and some lockers. Nothing special but adequate for what it needs to be.| The gym is medium size. Nothing spectacular but good enough with all modern Technogym equipment.||Spa - It's not really a full on spa so much as a few treatment rooms on the same floor as the gym and the locker room. The treatments I tried were well done but this isn't a full on spa experience like some of the other 5 star hotels in the area. More an afterthought.||Public spaces - the lobby bar is an excellent space taking advantage of the same views.||Breakfast - Excellent spread as you'd expect of Asian, 5 star hotels. Multiple stations with both western and asian dishes. XLB, Pot Stickers, Wanton soup, Congee, Soy Milk, etc. Lots and lots of excellent fresh fruit. Western included hash browns, sausages and bacon, mushrooms, bread table, cold cuts. ||Service - Friendly and responsive. Exactly how I like it. Starting from when you arrive with the bellhop. Door open and helps with the luggage. Friendly smile from the front desk as they check you in. Even the security guard at the elevator jumps to push the elevator call buttons for you. Needed housekeeping to deliver some additional items and that happened quickly. Room service reception was helpful and delivery people were great. I had to email the front desk some changes to my stay and they responded immediately and took care of everything. My personal favorite was a few of the chefs at breakfast that were super friendly and got to know my orders so were ready for me as I walked up to get what I wanted.||As an aside - on trips in prior years post Covid (2023), the hotel seemed to have a few service glitches. Not a surprise as I think everyone was running short staffed or missing staff. Language seemed a particular challenge. Over the past 12 months, I've seen an improvement with each visit. I think some of the complaints during that time period were legitimate. Reduced breakfast offerings and language limited/ less capable service levels. From what I can tell, management has been working hard to rectify those minor quibbles and have been proactive and responsive in improving the standard.||Globalist - I've been upgraded from the base room to a better room with a view each time. I used a suite upgrade for my most recent trip and was able to confirm the standard Park Suite which was an outstanding room. Standard suites are unfortunately, extremely limited at this hotel so...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to stay at the Park Hyatt Shanghai and found my experience to be a mix of awe-inspiring views, delightful culinary experiences, as well as a few disappointments in the details and service.
Firstly, the hotel's design left me with mixed feelings. On the positive side, it is undoubtedly stunning and feels like an art piece by master Tony Chi. However, it's clear that form over function may have been an overriding factor here. For instance, the room I stayed in boasted a beautiful, but largely purposeless, table in the center, seeming to be there purely for aesthetic reasons. Similarly, the shower was a marvel with four outlets, but it proved to be quite a puzzle to operate. This level of design complexity felt unnecessary and did not add to my overall comfort during the stay.
A point that requires immediate attention is the condition of the metalwork in the room. It was apparent that every piece had some degree of rust, detracting from the otherwise luxurious ambiance. A significant refurbishment is definitely in order.
Despite these setbacks, the Park Hyatt Shanghai excels in certain areas. Most notably, the view is truly outstanding, offering what could arguably be the best panorama of Shanghai city. This aspect of the hotel is undoubtedly its strongest selling point.
As for the gastronomic experience, I can't help but commend their Guangdong dish served on the 91st floor. It was simply fantastic and added a lot to my dining experience.
The service, though generally courteous and efficient, had its ups and downs. I appreciated the staff's efficiency in dealing with my luggage and checkout process. However, I was taken aback by the somewhat presumptuous behavior during a dinner reservation at the Chinese restaurant. I pre-ordered some food at noon, and was met with a somewhat distrustful attitude, being asked repeatedly about the deposit on my room reservation. This was unnecessary and felt uncomfortable.
Furthermore, the miscommunication regarding an in-house delivery was awkward. The front desk seemed to confuse the request, first thinking it was a postal package, then a food delivery. There was an unnecessary insistence on knowing the contents of the delivery, which resulted in an embarrassing situation. This could have been avoided with better communication training.
In conclusion, while the Park Hyatt Shanghai showcases stunning views and delightful culinary offerings, there is room for improvement. The aesthetic emphasis on design could be balanced with practicality and some aspects of service require enhancement. For the premium price and the reputation of the Park Hyatt brand, guests should expect attention to all details - both big and small - to ensure a comfortable, seamless, and...
Read moreStayed at Park Hyatt Shanghai in 2023. I got a bund view room looking over the bund along Huangpu river. I can see the rooftop of Jinmao tower, the pearl at the same time. The places where I used to live and work became so small at this moment. I start to understand the meaning of staying at sky hotel. Waking up with that view, there was a moment I was like Jack on Titanic, I am king of the world||||Hotel opened in 2008, renovated 2017, the maintenance job is at ok level. The hotel itself is stunning. The arrival experience was quite interesting, the sniffing dog at parking lot entrance is cute, you have to open trunk for a sniff. There is limited ground parking at hotel entrance, carparking at garage is not free 10RMB/hr, top 120RMB/day. It takes 55S from L1 to L87 the sky lobby||||In the room I like the giant rainforest shower head is so good that at some point better than Park Hyatt Ningbo. Usually I don’t use bathtub cuz hygiene reason but I cant resist it at Park Hyatt Shanghai, the shower and bath experience was great. I had a good night sleep too, love the bed. Comfy comfy. ||||I was going to have a drink at the bar but I was told the bar is closed for good and hotel has turned it into an event space during covid. Breakfast was great with semi-buffet, I was able to enjoy breakfast sitting along the big window looking over the pearl and bund. It was an experience for lifetime.||||The service was very park hyatt style, not overwhelmingly warm, but they are just there whenever we need something without disturbing. ||||I recalled a dream that I had 10 years ago when we just came to Shanghai, I woke up at the rooftop of Park Hyatt with my love one sitting next to me. While we were looking over the top of Jinmao tower, stretching our eyes to the stunning view of Shanghai city, I gave her a kiss on the cheek. She did not say anything but smiled back at me.. I saw but myself in her still eyes. We had each other and we belonged to each other. It was a starry night, the evening breeze whispers through our shoulders, the city was glowing, but nothing was brighter than the light in her infinite eyes.. On that starry night I think I saw forever.||||Now the night is shattered, she’s long gone, to distance. But the smell of her hair, the touch of her face, the taste of her lips and her voice remains in me. ||||To remember, to let go, to move on.||||That’s the story between me and Park Hyatt Shanghai. Luxury is personal, what Park Hyatt Shanghai strikes me is luxury...
