I recently visited the town of Omiš and spent some time thete. While the natural beauty of the area and old town charm is undeniable, my experience was a mixed bag, with some significant drawbacks that others should be aware of.The Good: Omiš is a charming town with a rich history and picturesque views, especially where the Cetina River meets the Adriatic Sea. The restaurants in town deserve special mention for their excellent service. The staff in these establishments were attentive and friendly, which made dining a pleasant experience. The food was also delicious, offering a taste of authentic Croatian cuisine. The Not-So-Good: Unfortunately, my experience at Town Beach wasn't as positive. The water, while clear and inviting, is noticeably colder than nearby beaches. This is due to the Cetina River bringing in fresh, cold water, which can be a bit of a shock if you're not prepared for it.A significant downside is the lack of public toilets. There are only a few portable toilets available, and these were not well-maintained. The cleanliness left much to be desired, which is a shame given the number of visitors the beach attracts.Another inconvenience was the fact that all services at the beach and around town required cash. There were no options to pay by card, which was particularly frustrating given the high fees for withdrawing cash from ATMs. This made what should have been a relaxing day more stressful.Additionally, the service from vendors at the beach, including those selling pancakes, fresh juice, and even the boat operators, was disappointing. They lacked friendliness and seemed more focused on making money than providing a good experience for visitors. This was in stark contrast to the restaurant staff, who were excellent. Conclusion: While Omiš is a beautiful town with a lot to offer, particularly in terms of scenery and dining, the experience at Town Beach could be improved. The colder water, lack of clean facilities, cash-only payments, and unfriendly service from vendors are all factors to consider before visiting. If you're planning a trip here, be prepared for these challenges, and hopefully, the town will address some of these issues in the future to make the experience more enjoyable...

The beach itself is fine, as long as you don’t mind large crowds — it does get very busy. If you drive just a little further, you can find other beaches with far fewer people and a more relaxed atmosphere.

Unfortunately, our experience started off on a sour note. I set up a beach tarp, basically just a sheet of fabric to provide some shade for myself and my child. A man who rents out sunbeds and umbrellas on the spot came over and accused us of “camping,” which was completely untrue, and demanded that we take it down. Even a local Croatian woman argued with him on our behalf and later told us that what we were doing was perfectly fine, and that the guy was out of line.

What made it worse is that just a few dozen meters away, people had set up the exact same kind of tarp and nobody bothered them — simply because they were outside of the area controlled by this man. It left us with a very unpleasant impression right at the beginning...

Velika Plaža in Omiš is a beautiful sandy beach with a stunning backdrop of mountains and the Cetina River nearby. It offers the perfect mix of nature, relaxation, and fun. The shallow, clear waters make it very safe for kids, and ideal for swimming or just cooling off during hot summer days.

There are plenty of beach bars, cafes, and activities like paddleboarding or pedal boats. The atmosphere is vibrant yet laid-back — a great place to enjoy both peace and energy. The view of the nearby cliffs and the old town of Omiš adds something truly special.

This beach is also very clean and well-maintained. Whether you're looking to sunbathe, take a relaxing walk, or grab a drink with your feet in the sand, Velika Plaža is a must-visit if you're in the Omiš area. Highly...

One of a few sandy beaches in Croatia, the water is shallow, clear and warm. There are no sea urchins so you don't really need your wellies here. Changing point are available and free of charge Shower with fresh water is right on the beach and free of charge as well. There are kayaks for rent from self service box. Nearby you can rent small boats from the local marina or hop on a bigger boat for a few hours long sightseeing trip. It's a great beach, one of my personal favourites in Croatia as well as the town of Omis There are two bars / caffees right on the beach if you fancy a drink or coffee.
