A visit to Aarhus Old Town is like stepping back in time, where cobblestone streets and timber-framed houses transport you to Denmark's rich history. As you wander through the narrow alleys, you can't help but feel immersed in the charm of the past.

Exploring the old town is like unlocking a treasure trove of historical gems. Each building tells a story, from the humble homes of craftsmen to the grandeur of merchant houses. The meticulous preservation of architecture allows visitors to appreciate the craftsmanship of centuries past.

One highlight of Aarhus Old Town is its culinary offerings. Traditional Danish cuisine awaits in cozy taverns and cafes, where hearty dishes like smørrebrød (open-faced sandwiches) and frikadeller (meatballs) tantalize the taste buds. For those with a sweet tooth, local bakeries serve up delectable treats like æbleskiver (apple pancakes) and kanelsnegle (cinnamon rolls).

But the true heart of Aarhus Old Town lies in its immersive experiences. Step into the shoes of a medieval artisan and try your hand at pottery or blacksmithing. Engage in traditional games like ring toss or hoop rolling, reminiscent of simpler times when entertainment was found in the joy of simple pleasures.

As the sun sets over the old town, the ambiance takes on a magical quality. Gas lamps cast a warm glow, casting shadows on the ancient facades. Strolling along the riverbanks, you can't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to glimpse into Denmark's past.

In conclusion, a visit to Aarhus Old Town is a journey through time that delights the senses and enriches the soul. Whether you're savoring the flavors of Danish cuisine, exploring centuries-old architecture, or indulging in traditional games, this historic gem offers an unforgettable experience for travelers seeking to connect...

Den Gamle By in Aarhus is an amazing place that took us back in time to the history of Denmark. The recreated streets and buildings were incredibly detailed and truly transported us to a bygone era. We felt like we were walking through the streets of an old Danish town and learning about the lives and customs of the people who lived there in the past.

The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, making the experience even more enjoyable. They were able to answer all of our questions and provide interesting insights into the history of the buildings and exhibits.

The attention to detail in every aspect of Den Gamle By is truly impressive. From the costumes and props to the exhibits and interactive displays, everything felt authentic and realistic. We particularly enjoyed the workshops where we were able to see traditional crafts being made, and even got to try our hand at a few of them.

After a day of exploring the museum, we highly recommend trying the on-site restaurant, which offers traditional Danish dishes. The food was delicious and truly captured the flavors and ingredients of Danish cuisine. We especially enjoyed the open-faced sandwiches, or smørrebrød, which were beautifully presented and bursting with flavor.

Overall, we had an incredible time at Den Gamle By and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in history, culture, or just looking for a unique and enjoyable experience. Don't forget to try the traditional Danish dishes at the...

Outdoor as well as indoor museum with interactive activities.

The museum depicts the different time periods dating back from the 17th century to the 1990s with original houses and buildings from the period in question. The interior and décor are original and therefore a great experience.

You can find different shopping opportunities e.g. a bakery, hardware store and other small shops furnished with an original interior. The staff is dressed in clothes from the specific time period, which makes the visit very authentic and lively.

All year long, you will also experience short sketches like a family that cannot afford rent, and for that reason they are evicted from their home.

During the summer, you can sit outside and enjoy the small areas with your own food or you can buy food at small shops or cafés. During the winter, you can enjoy the small Christmas markets at the central square and all year long, it is possible to ride on a horse-drawn carriage and feel the vibes from the old days. The streets are paved with cobblestone, which makes it difficult to visit, if you have walking difficulties.

Inside the museum, you also find a poster museum and a museum of the history of the city of Aarhus. These to “extra” museums are free to visit, when you have already paid the entrance to “Den gamle by”. They are both located in...
