I have recently visited the museum with my brother and I had an amazing time.
First of all the ships are kept in great condition, furthermore they are left so to say untouched (except a few display rooms). This can especially be seen on the submarine.
Secondly (and most importantly) 2 of the 3 vehicles that can be visited, have a guide, taking you through everything on the crafts. On the Peder Skram frigate there is no one guide, however there are several experts on board to help visitors with their questions and even give a guided tour if interested.
As a foreign person I would like to emphasize, that everyone speaks fluent English, which is quite impressive considering that the topic has its own special terms. The guides are all retired soldiers, who have served on these exact or similar ships.
I had a whole lot of fun (my planned 1,5 hour visit turned into almost 4 hours). The stories and the expertise of the guides is just astounding, I am glad that I chose to go to this place.
Just to give you some extra kicks to check it out, my brother (17 years old) is totally against of violence and wars, but he enjoyed every moment and aspect of the visit.
Last but not least, according to one of the guides: "The best view of the harbor is from here".
I hope this helps you to organize...
Read moreOMG. This was much better than expected. We thought we might stay an hour or two but stayed more than three hours. Yes, it’s old warships, but there is so much technology and engineering and Cold War history to learn. The people there are so helpful, friendly and have a story to tell from the past. Some of them actually worked on these ships and can tell amazing stuff. It’s also intriguing to climb up and down the ladders and genuinely see all the things that make up a warship. It was also quite interesting to see all the redundancy that was employed to keep the ships running in all situations Overall, there is on big ship to see (which has the most interesting features), one smaller ship and a submarine. We saw all there and it was just so entertaining. There is also pretty detailed explanations about all systems on board, both in Danish and English. We went with the family and loved it. Full 100% recommendation! Go visit, it’s better than...
Read moreCompletely agree with the comments from others, exploring the Frigate PederSkram is an amazing experience! We spent more the 2 hours on this ship alone. The visits are hosted by volunteers, some of whom served on the vessel during the Cold War. We felt very privileged to have this opportunity, especially with so few other people visiting, we had the guide entirely to ourselves! He was very good with the kids, showing them how controls work and making scenarios for us all to play along. These guys are so generous with their time, it’s a wonderful service they are doing for us land lubbers to get some idea of what life at sea in a naval vessel is like….
It’s included in the Copenhagen card, I think this is a very unique experience - I’ve never seen anything quite like it anywhere...
