One of the most beautiful formal gardens I’ve ever seen! The Baroque Gardens at Frederiksborg Castle are a stunning example of royal landscape design at its finest. Carefully laid out in the 1720s under King Frederik IV, these gardens were meant to mirror the elegance and power of the monarchy - everything is precise, symmetrical, and grand in scale.
The main garden is built along a central axis that perfectly aligns with the castle, offering jaw-dropping views from every angle. You’ll see beautifully trimmed hedges, cascading terraces, ornamental flower beds, fountains, and statues - all reflecting the ideals of 18th-century harmony and control over nature.
A fun historical fact: the garden was nearly lost to time. It was restored in the 1990s using original 18th-century plans, so what you’re seeing today is a faithful recreation of the royal garden as it looked almost 300 years ago!
There’s also a more natural, romantic-style English garden nearby that contrasts with the formal Baroque section - a peaceful area for walking and reflection.
Don’t skip the gardens - they’re an essential part of the Frederiksborg experience. Bring a camera, take your time, and enjoy the regal tranquility. A true hidden gem just...
Read moreFrederiksborg Castle Gardens is the perfect combination of history, romance, and etherealism. During the tour of the Frederiksborg Castle, you're able to see the gardens through the windows. But the window view pales in comparison to the experience of actually walking though the gardens. Based on the placard at the entrance of the garden, the reestablished Baroque Garden was completed in 1996. The paths are beautifully lined with small pebbles. I was pleasantly surprised to see bikers riding though the garden. This is a perfect experience for families, couples, and singles alike. I took a solo trip to Copenhagen and the gardens served as a backdrop to reflect...
Read moreAmazing location. The garden with the castle in the background looks absolutely magnificent. After spending our day up in Tisvildeje we decided to stop by Frederiksborg Slot. We arrived there at around 19:00 so we didn't have the chance to take a look at the inside of the castle. However, just walking in the gardens and seeing the castle from outside made our stop more than worth it. Sadly the castle is currently undergoing restoration so we didn't see it in its full glory, but maybe I'll visit it once again after construction is complete :) Highly...
