The Sphinx Avenue — Attraction in Old Karnak

The Sphinx Avenue, also known as the "Avenue of Sphinxes," is an ancient ceremonial route that once connected the Karnak Temple to the Luxor Temple in Luxor, Egypt. This grand avenue, which stretches for about 2.7 kilometers (1.7 miles), is lined with hundreds of sphinx statues, many of which have the body of a lion and the head of a ram or a pharaoh, symbolizing strength and divine protection.

The avenue was used for religious processions, especially during the annual Opet Festival, a major event in ancient Egyptian religion in which the statues of gods from Karnak were transported to Luxor Temple for rituals that celebrated the rejuvenation of the pharaoh. The Sphinx Avenue played a crucial role in the grand ceremonies of the time, as it connected the two temples, signifying the link between the gods and the pharaohs.

Over the centuries, the avenue was buried and largely forgotten. However, recent excavations and restoration efforts have uncovered and re-exposed many of the sphinx statues, and the avenue is now a significant archaeological and tourist site. The restoration of the Sphinx Avenue, which began in the early 2000s, has helped bring back the grandeur of the ancient processional route and has allowed visitors to walk along this ancient pathway that once witnessed some of the most important religious events in ancient Egypt.

«طريق الكباش» هو في الأصل طريق ملكي كان يربط ما بين «معبد الأقصر» و «معبد الكرنك» ويبلغ طوله 2700 متر ، وكان ملوك مصر القديمة يستخدمونه في الاحتفالات والطقوس الدينية

الطريق وقتها كان له اسمين؛ الأول هو «وات نثر» ويعني طريق الرب، والثاني هو «تا مي رهنت» ويعني «طريق الكباش» وده لأن الطريق كله مزين على الجانبين بتماثيل على هيئة كباش في وضعية أبو الهول ،

♦️الطريق ده كان مجهول وغير معروف لأنه ظل مدفون تحت الأرض لقرون طويلة ، و أول من اكتشف هذا الطريق ده كان الدكتور الأثري «زكريا غنيم» عام 1949 ،

حين كان ينقب عن الآثار فعثر على 14 كبش ، وبعدها بعدة سنوات وفي الستينات عثر الدكتور «محمد عبد الرازق» على 64 كبش آخرين ، و في عام 2002 توصل الدكتور «محمد الصغير» إلى حقيقة ان ده طريق كامل طوله 2.7 كم مزين على جانبيه بالكامل بــ 1200 كبش ، وأستطاع أن يحدد مسار الطريق القديم الأصلي بدقة . ♦️ لكن المشكلة ان أغلب هذا الطريق كان قد دُفن تحت الأض ، ومش بس كده دا اتبنى فوق المسار الأثري ده بيوت ومساكن وجوامع وكنايس وحتى مباني حكومية في المنطقة المعروفة بـ «نجع أبو عصبة» بما يعني أنه عشان تتم عملية إحياء الطريق القديم فكان لابد من إزالة كل هذه التعديات ، وده عايز ارادة سياسية حقيقية، لأن تكلفة نزع الملكيات دي كلها وتعويض أصحابها وتوفير أماكن بديلة ليهم هي تكلفة عالية جدا ، دا غير الصعوبة الفنية في الكشف عن الطريق الأثري القديم وترميمه ، وكذلك ترميم الكباش اللي تم اكتشافها وكان أغلبها في حالة يرثى لها

وعشان كل الأسباب دي فضل مشروع إحياء «طريق الكباش» مجرد حلم صعب التحقيق ، الذي بدأ منذ عام 2006 في عهد اللواء سمير فرج والذي كان محافظا للاقصر وتوقف الحلم لحد من حوالي سنتين لما الدولة قررت تخوض التحدي الكبير ده وتوفر له كل الامكانيات المادية والفنية ، وبكده رجع المشروع تاني لدائرة الضوء ، وفعلا تم إزالة مئات المباني من بيوت و مساجد و كنايس و مباني حكومية ، وعمل بدائل لهم جميعا في أماكن أخرى وبعدها بدأت أعمال الحفر الأثري المتخصص ، وابتدت معالم الطريق الأثري القديم تتضح شيئا فشيئا ، لحد ما الطريق خرج للنور من تاني ، . ♦️ ميزة الطريق ده انه هيخلي السائح يقدر يخرج من معبد الأقصر و يوصل لمعبد الكرنك مباشرة أو العكس بدون الخروج من الأجواء الفرعونية ، لأن السائح سيستعمل هذا الطريق الفرعوني ، ولن يضطر للسير في...
