Sunday, Nov, 2017 - we got our money exchanged close to the tourist souk by the Luxor Temple, and then walked south through the train station and past some wonderful eateries, but this restaurant we wanted to try (it had some good reviews so we decided to give it a shot). When we walked closer we noticed a lot of locals. We were then passed along to cashier (thinking we are buying takeouts), who passed us along upstairs dining area. We were provided with the English menu (not sure if it is the same price as the Arabic menu) and we ordered a small Koushry, falafel, baba gonush dish, and a chicken pie at 6:07pm (the hubs was hungry). We received everything except the chicken pie by 6:15pm as they are still cooking it. We received the pie at 6:13pm. The taste is pretty good. The 'pie' looks more like quesadilla, and the 'crust' is like those Chinese green onion pancake, except without the green onions here. Unfortunately, I find the chicken content to be lacking. The staff are friendly and water from a jug is provided (they actually treat us like one of them here, which is awesome!) The only little wrinkle is we said small Koushry and apparently they gave us a medium - difference of 4LE. Not a big deal, but we both remembered pointing to the 'small' on the menu to the waiter. Overall, happy experience. And yes, we can't finish the pie and...
Read moreCame here just to try their famous koushry. Didn't know what exactly it is, but have to try since it is Egyptian national dish. As I already has lunch earlier, just ordered the mesium size. Already quite large portion for just 24 EGP.
Looks like a mixture of pasta, rice, chickpeas, lentils with tomoto paste and some chilli oil. The blended taste just came together wonderfully. So appetising. Completely finished it despite being full.
Service is friendly and fast.
The dining area could do with a bit more brightness though.
BTW, Google Map for walking directed me to wrong back instead of front of the shop. Can't enter...
Read moreThey have two menus, one in english for the tourists which is x3 times the egyptians price. I uncovered the scam after ordering by asking for the arabic menu and they scaped the confrontation saying I got confused, that the price of my dish was not 400LE as the manager clearly said, so it ended up being 200LE (in the arabic menu all prices are below 200LE. Oh and they added 50LE for the service. Avoid this place food is not even worth it. Please use the google translator on the picture I attach if you decide to go...
