On entering from opposite the Grand Pacific, I saw a fast food container which I picked up thinking that it was a one off and the trees and gardens are so spectacular that I would help to keep them that way. What a naive idiot I am. As we progressed the rubbish became spectacularly appalling. A choir was being filmed near the rotunda by the museum. They were singing amongst one rubbish bin tipped over and its contents poured out and behind it was black bin bag slit open and again, all the contents dispersed around it. These were not the only examples - there was rubbish everywhere and no one picked it up. The city council should be ashamed of itself as well as the locals who apparently don't mind being in pile of rubbish. The beautiful park deserves better!!!! Read moreThurston Garden is an icon of Suva, built during the colonial times. The gardens are kept neat and trees are always trimmed, but over years the gardens has lost its glory. The council has not done enough to introduce new species of plants and fix the old fountain. It has become a refuge for the homeless and during the rainy months which means all year around if your a Suva resident you will know what I mean, certain parts of the garden become soggy and tend to hold water. Read moreNice, FREE moderate sized gardens with some large trees (one of which dropped a large limb near us while walking by haha). Many of the trees are filled with hundreds of bats, which is fun to see. No labels on anything and some garbage and tree refuse scattered about in various areas, as well as a few people sleeping under some trees, but overall reasonably maintained. Could use a few more benches for seating and better cleaning but overall a decent garden, with the Fiji Museum (and nice clean restrooms) located...
