This is one of the most spectacular public squares in Europe and it's a listed UNESCO World Heritage site. I entered from the south side golden gate on the Hôtel de Ville side (this city hall aka Palais de Stanislas) occupies the entire south side of about 98m in length) and right in the centre of the square is the statue of Stanislas encased in a glass dome! This Square is just breathtakingly handsome with the City Hall covering the entire south side, the Opera House (once the Hôtel de la Reine) to the east side and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nancy (was originally the Collège de Médicine) is to the west. The northern part of the Square has the Héré Arch, an arch de Triomphe style gate. On the four corners and the east and west sides are golden wrought iron gates with two fountains, the most spectacular of these fountains is the Neptune fountain. The history of this Square is even more intriguing and worth reading about it. Nancy is known as the City of Golden Gates as testament to this Square. Absolutely ten out of ten experience and absolutely suitable for all ages especially young children to wander around this stupendous historical and UNESCO World...

Today, there is a statue of Leszczyński founded in 1831 by grateful people of Lorraine, and the square is named after Stanisław - "Place Stanislas", which may be a pleasant surprise for Poles...
