To see the church, you must call the keykeeper, whose phone number is on the door (this is typical across Svaneti as these churches are considered holy shrines, not touristic objects). Rezo is the keykeeper of the church; his family has been the keykeepers of Laghaami for more than a thousand years. Rezo is also a professional art restorationist and has personally overseen the preservation of this church's unique historical frescoes from their near destruction during the Communist period. Rezo also finances the upkeep and maintenance of this church entirely by himself, without support from the government or the patriarchate. So your donation for his personal guided tour is not a touristic scam - it is directly supporting the preservation of this site for future...

Very beautiful small church build between the 8th and the 13th centuries, fully painted inside, and with partial paintings still visible outside. The house owner‘s family is taking care of the church for centuries, but unfortunately it is visible that the place might need further preservation and restoration. The owner also hopes for more in-depth art history research in the region before this heritage...
