Stayed here for 3 nights while we visited Mestia. TLDR: best. Service. Ever.
Location - 4/5 Not the most convenient. Within 10-minute walk from the main street, but over old, rocky, inclined path inaccessible with most cars (4WD recommended).
Ambience - 4/5 Common areas are nicely decorated, reception area with antiques. Outdoor dining area with a great view of Mestia town. Atmosphere in the rooms are a little less unique but good enough for me.
Rooms and facilities - 5/5 No, it's nothing compared to the 5-star hotels you get in bigger cities, but I can't imagine getting anything much better around here. The room I got was large and comfortable, with plenty of power outlets and sizable toilet. I was lucky enough to get a room with a washing machine. Some of the appliances are a little old and quirky, but they all add to the character of the place.
Service - 6/5 Nope, you read that right. That's a 6 out of 5. Sure, the larger hotel chains have professional crew to service you, but nothing beats the warmth and friendliness of the host here. She treated us with utmost hospitality, as if we were visiting her house. She served dinner to our table, introducing each dish and their origins. And speaking of food, my, the Georgian food here is top-notch! We usually started with a warm, vegetable soup to warm ourselves up, then moved on to Georgian bread, some proteins (Ojakhuri), and Kachapuri (we tried two varieties over three dinners - one bean and another beef). We also loved the brinjal salad served over breakfast. We sat through our meals accompanied by the house dog, Masi, with his large, beady eyes.
Overall - 5/5 I stayed in quite a few places over the past 2 weeks I spent in Georgia, but this is the only one I bothered to review. I am not sure if I ever will return to Mestia, but if I do, I will definitely want to...
Read moreThree years ago (in March 2019) visited our group Svanetia for the first time. We found the expected terrains, amazing for ski-mountaineering, but we were additionally very pleased by the hospitality of the Goshteliani family and the Old House hotel staff led by Nini. The hotel felt like home from the first day on. Tidy rooms, great localy produced food and all informations from the conditions in the mountains to general facts about Svaneti culture and history, … all at one place. Transport were arranged by the 'home'' driver Djamal, who's ingenuity we have to thank, for helping us get the most of our days out. Coming back again next year was unfortunately not possible because of Covid, so we visited Mestia again in last February. This time we were allready greeted as we were old friends. Allready on our first tour, a friend of ours hurt himself badly. Sandro and Adoli took care of the rescue action and thanks to them he recovered quickly in the Mestia hospital. I do not doubt, that there are many very pleasing accommodations around Mestia, but we made great friends in the Goshteliani family and thus want have to look for any place to stay on our next visit. Nini, Sandro, Adoli, Luka, Djamal and all the staff of the Old House are the best for us. // I can still hear the...
Read moreThe beauty and atmosphere I experienced at this hotel was like a dream, I spent four lovely nights at this hotel. The kind staff with a beautiful smile guided me to choose the room, introduced me to their lovely dog Messi, the balcony and its wonderful view of this townlet has made it the best hotel in Mestia, something that may have been seen in dreams or movies before. The wooden rooms, the terrace that overlooks all of Mastia, the delicious and varied breakfast that changes every day, civilized guests, and all the staff of this hotel made my stay like a dream. I am sure that if I return to Mestia one day, this hotel will be my choice. And their restaurant is an amazing place to eat various Georgian and international foods, they also accept credit cards. They manage skii tours, hiking tours, horse riding and whatever you need to experience while staying in Mestia. I highly recommend...
