Museum Küppersmühle — Attraction in Duisburg

These spaces beat all the MoMA experiences I’ve had across the US for the following reasons: ⭐Stunning juxtapositions. While the red brick outer walls stand proudly to remind visitors of the industrial past, the minimalistic interiors of plain walls with no frills frame the modern artworks powerfully. The broad horizontal walls are punctuated by slender window slits. ⭐Bridge. The silo, now cut through, houses the bridges that connect the two major wings of exhibition spaces. The symbolism is potent. The whole museum is a bridge of the past and present. ⭐Three artists that I personally liked a lot. Gotthard Graubner, Gerhard Richter, and K.O. Götz. ⭐The translations are done superbly. Reading the wall texts is a joy. ⭐The staff was friendly to me. I had a few chance dialogues with different staff members. ⭐The waterfront location really adds to the experience. The serene ripples are integrated into the visitor experience through the deep-set narrow window slits.

⭐⭐⭐Did I mention the iconic stairwell??? I call it a man-made...

Mehr als enttäuschend!

Und dabei hatte ich mir von meinem Ausflugsziel an Christi Himmelfahrt relativ viel versprochen.

Leider ließ die (sogenannte) Kunst für meine Begriffe größtenteils zu wünschen übrig.

Immerhin konnte ich bemerken, dass einige andere Besucher gleichermaßen regelrecht entsetzt zu sein schienen.

Noch nie zuvor habe ich derart zahlreiche lausige Gemälde in einem Museum versammelt gesehen.

Noch nie zuvor wurde ich mit so auffallend vielen "Kompositionen" in Schwarz konfrontiert.

Noch nie zuvor habe ich abstrakte Kunst als so befremdlich empfunden.

Und das für einen Eintrittspreis von 14 Euro ...

Das Museum Küppersmühle leistet mit seiner Sammlung und der aktuellen Ausstellung "Maler, Diebe und Gesindel" mit Exponaten des Künstlers Dieter Krieg meiner Ansicht nach einen Beitrag dazu, dass einem zeitgenössische sowie moderne Kunst regelrecht verleidet werden kann.

Selbst die Präsentation der Werke fiel einfallslos aus und vermochte dementsprechend keine interessanten Anreize zu schaffen.

Hinzu kam ein übertrieben vornehmes Getue eines Großteil des Personals mit extremen Tendenzen der Überwachung sowie Verfolgung durch die Aufsichtspersonen, welche wohl bei der Stasi hätten Karriere machen können.

Das Industriedenkmal mit seinem Erweiterungsbau ist durchaus sehenswert, aber nach meinem Dafürhalten keinesfalls sooo einzigartig und einmalig, wie es an vielen Stellen beschrieben wird.

PS: Die von mir aufgenommenen Exponate gehören zu den interessantesten, die ich auf drei Etagen mit einer Gesamtfläche von 6100 Quadratmetern...
