Porticus; It is a not so big one-room gallery built on a small island in the Main river. Looking at the exhibition themes under the control of the curators, the gallery is like a dance floor where they send a message saying "Look how bad it is out there, see what the artists exhibiting and what they are saying ..."

Beautiful gallery in a dedicated building on an island in the Main river, designed by Christoph Mäckler Architekten. For me the building itself is the highlight, although the exhibitions are also always interesting. Entrance is free.

A small exhibition room with free entry. You may drop by if there are some exhibitions that interest you when it is open. It won't take up too much of your time but sometimes it could surprise you.

a leading institution in the world of contemporary art, Portikus at the time of writing hosts an artist whose exhibition claims to work with space but, in reality, works against it through and through.

The feng-shui friendly interior of portikus has been transformed into an oppressive zone; beautiful windows—which would offer a view to bird sanctuary and the famed skyline against summer skies—has been blocked; the towering, labor-intensive white walls have been erected to further suffocate air and energy flow. all seemingly to dictate its unassuming visitors to succumb to the clinical substrate of the works; the artist has allegedly demanded that these walls must remain spotless and virginal, which render what little remaining space even more narrow, the stipulations: unreasonable, even.

perhaps the exhibition is about tyranny, among other things.

bearing the brunt of all this are the student workers. they are to guard this stifling environment during the sweltering / beautiful summer hours, with access neither to a gemütlich view nor breeze for repose but to some pocket change and the coming...

I was there during the weekday and we went close to the closing hours. It was not crowded which was great considering that the exhibition space is not that huge. The exhibition was really interesting and we had an amazing lady there who explained everything (in English) 😁. Definitely gonna check out other exhibits...
