Diözesanmuseum Freising — Attraction in Freising

This was one of the best museum I have ever been, the place was the most self-reflected. Not only they curate the collections with history of their own but with artistic backgrounds of believes. The place is opened about questions beyond the religion and symbolic references of mankind. I am amazed with the quality of exhibition on the ground floor as well. Surely everyone knows James Turrell is amazing but I did not expect to see Berlinde De Bruyckere there. Keep on with amazing shows pls:) MUST visit their bibliotek, it is my dream reading room filled up with Vitra furnitures!!

One request, might be good to alert people on the entrance that collections rather be PG...

Entrance 8€/Adult even on Sunday. 3 flloors. the ground one for reception, shop for souvenirs, wardrobe and a collection of wooden arts that i did not find interesting. the second floor was an exhibition of the development of Body art in german paintings from the old 1500's. The first floor is the true treasure. 8 levels or Halls of Christian arts following Bavarian style from the 13th till the 18th century. the basement is a restaurant with a view on all of Freising. The Museum is on the Upper Hill facing the Cathedral. dont forget to bring 1 euro for...

Das ursprünglich 1974 eröffnete Haus war früher de facto ein abweisender, finsterer Ort, den man selbst als Mensch mit ausgeprägtem Interesse für Kunst / Geschichte kaum betreten mochte. Was das Architektenbüro Brückner&Brückner samt dem Team rund um Direktor Christoph Kürzeder nach neunjähriger Renovierungs- und Umbauphase gemacht haben ist wirklich erstaunlich und ein großer Wurf für die Domstadt Freising. Das Gebäude präsentiert sich offen und lichtdurchflutet - mit sagenhafter Terrasse und einem Innenhof, der aufgrund seiner Dachkonstruktion und den Sichtachsen fast an das British Museum in London denken läßt. Auch die thematisch kluge Präsentation der freilich hochkarätigen Schausammlung (Asam-Brüder, Cranach, Grasser&Co.) in der Raumfolge der Bel Étage ist fein gelungen. Es ist erfrischend, daß man sich von den muffigen, vollen und unzeitgemäßen Sälen vergangener Tage radikal verabschiedet hat. Die aktuelle Ausstellung 'Verdammte Lust' fand ich dahingegen - erwartungsgemäß - zu handzahm. Ein kopulierender Satyr, ein sexy lockender Sebastian oder ein Bild mit einer in Extase lächelnden, da gerade gezüchtigten Nonne locken niemanden mehr in ein Haus, das kunsthistorisch durchaus Meilensteine setzen könnte. Auch die 'kritische Auseinandersetzung' mit der Institution Kirche kommt auf den üblichen Samtpfötchen daher. Fazit: Nett anzusehen, aber en gros belanglos. Ansonsten empfand ich die Crew am Tag meines Besuchs sehr engagiert und das hübsche Restaurant mit Mittelmeerflair total empfehlenswert! Grazie ancora...
