I used to come here since I was little and always loved it but the prices make it impossible for the average family to afford it. 11€ Entry (Adult) for 2.5h 9€ Ice skating shoes for 2h 10€ deposit for the kids skate assistant + 3€ hourly!! 10€ deposit for the locker key + 1€ p/H Crêpes 4,50€ + etc etc
We arrived at 11am and the ice was all scratched and very hard to skate on. They should stick to a schedule how they used to. A large part was blocked off for people practising. It's sad to see this kind of development. We understand prices have spiked everywhere but 3€ per hour for the skate assistant?? Take 10€ deposit and that's it. Come on! 4.50€ for a snack that takes 20ct to make... so disappointing to see. Other ice rinks cost half. Why
2* for the nostalgia I felt. We won't be back.. and I think many others neither..
Add on after response: All that does not explain why you don't get your money worth and the ice being in bad condition even at 11am, half the rink being blocked for classes and parents having to pay for skate assistant when there is 0 cost and they always used to be free. It's ridiculous to put everything on not being subsidised because the costs increased but not to the point that a family of three should pay 80€ just...
Read moreI went to get a season locker and ticket, like I do every year. But this year the organization was a complete mess. There were multiple lines and people didn't know where to go. There were dozens of people in line and one employee handling everything. There was no information whatsoever and no one helping. Some customers in line were nice enough to give information and organize things because otherwise no one would know anything. And in the end I've waited 2.5 hours in line for them to tell me and many other people that the lockers were gone, even after reassuring us that everyone who was in line would get one. Also the sale started at 4 PM on a Thursday, and to actually get a locker I learned that I should have been there 30 minutes earlier, so basically if you work you have no chance of getting it. Why not do it on a evening or weekend? There were so many other issues with the whole organization that even though I really enjoy ice skating and I want to support small businesses, I'll skip this year, and maybe next year try again to see if they start doing the bare minimum of...
Read moreThe open air ice rink in Planten un Blomen Park is good for doing some sport outside during Hamburgs often dreary grey winters.
Although especially at the weekends, it can be super crowded. One can only slowly glide with the unsteady flow of beginners, people who still kind of remember how to skate from their teenage years, children and some mostly male skating beaus who like to show off how closely they can pass by and through the other skaters.
During rush hours the cues for rental equipment are long and one needs patience in the chaotic lines.
Food is unfortunately overpriced and mediocre. A small, low quality chicken nuggets portion and French fries for 9,50 Euro. Apart from the lack of quality service was unfriendly. Although French fries might be iconic food in the "Freibad" and the ice rink I would recommend to bring some home made...
