The Witch-Tower (Hexenturm): Well the story has it that this tower has nothing to do with witch huntings. But then again underneath the tower there is a list of names of the "witches" (also some male witches) that were executed. But I am not so good at history so I think this needs more digging to figure out. However if u r interested in going up the tower u can get the keys to the tower from the most beautiful tourist information center I have ever seen. The tower has about 120 stairs and the climb at the end becomes steep and a bit tight. So if u r claustrophobic or afraid of heights, I would suggest u omit this tourist stop. From up there u have a beautiful view of the old town. The key can stay with u for exchange with an ID for about 30mins. Went here with my dad and husband on a Sunday. The tower was more spacious than we thought, though the last flight of stairs is a tad narrow. It's worth the climb for the view though!Depending on how many people are inside, you may have to wait a bit but even with a backlog of people before us, we just waited about 10-15 min. Bei dem rund 42 Meter hohen Hexenturm, dem Wahrzeichen der Stadt Idstein, handelt es sich um den baulich mehrfach veränderten, als Butterfassturm ausgeführten Bergfried der Burg Idstein. Aufgrund seiner exponierten Lage und seiner Höhe prägt er das Idsteiner Stadtbild.

In älteren Dokumenten wird der Hexenturm mit anderen Bezeichnungen betitelt, so zum Beispiel Schloßturm, dicker Turm, hoher Turm, Uhrturm oder auch Bergfried. Der Name Hexenturm setzt sich erst seit ungefähr 1900/1910 aufgrund der Verbreitung der Lektüre von Ottokar Schupps (1834–1911) „Die Pfarrfrau von Heftrich“ durch. In seiner Geschichte beschreibt Schupp, wie sich die der Hexerei bezichtigte Frau des Heftricher Pfarrers vom offenen Fenster ihres Gefängnisses im Hexenthurm nachts mit ihrem Mann bespricht. Beschrieben wird hier eindeutig der Bergfried. Nach der jüngeren Forschung lassen sich keine Belege dafür finden, dass jemals der Hexerei bezichtigte Personen im Hexenturm inhaftiert waren.
