I recently had the opportunity to visit the German Mine Museum in Bochum, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I stepped inside, I was transported back in time to the heyday of mining in the region.

The museum is incredibly well-curated, with informative exhibits that cover everything from the evolution of mining technology to the daily lives of miners.

Throughout the museum, there are interactive displays, multimedia presentations, and fascinating artifacts that bring the history of mining to life. I especially appreciated the attention to detail and the effort that went into preserving this important part of our industrial heritage.

The staff at the museum were friendly and knowledgeable, and they were more than happy to answer any questions I had. Plus, the onsite facilities, including a gift shop and cafe, made it easy to spend the whole day exploring.

Overall, I can't recommend the German Mine Museum enough. Whether you're a history buff, a science enthusiast, or just looking for a unique experience, this museum has something for everyone. It's a true gem in the...

What an amazing place!! We are a family of four with two teenage children and spent 5 1/2 hours at the museum. The tour through the mine is great and shows lots of different machines and drilling techniques. There is also a simulator which is showing the experience of a 1.2 km ride underground. After the mine ride you come out on a viewing platform. A few stairs will take you to another platform (55 metres high) where the views are even better! The rest of the museum is also really informative and covers coal mining, national resources, art and more. We had a coffee break in the Kumpel Café enjoyed some delicious cakes at reasonable prices. Later, we ate lunch there and loved the menu names of the different dishes. Again, the meals were reasonably priced. A family ticket to the museum cost us €40, parking was free. There is ample street parking on the...

The museum is actually 2 museums in one ticket of 10€ and you can also see them with no tour guide. The one is the mining which may need to go with group and a guide .(I do not know if there is extra cost.)In any case the museums are great .There are a lot to see about mining .There are old hand tools ,machines ,cloths ,wagons and what anything can be use in mining. The other part of the museum has art with a lot of beautiful pictures. There are statues from old years.A lot of models of ships and metal art. There are a lot of old stones and tools from the very old years.More than 2 hours you need to see.Not all the kids will like it.Take kids who can realise what they see and why so you will all enjoy the visit. The 5 stars are not enough for this...

Ticket entry is €10. They will take you in subterranean mins with a lift. You can walk across underground mines to see mining equipments for drilling, locomotive, cycles, safety, lamps, etc. It is a different world. Bochum used to mine 310 million year old hard coal. On ground floor you can go through exhibits which show history, political, social, migrants, art, key personalities, equipments associated with Rhine-westphalan / Ruhr area collieries. First floor have mining exhibits other than coal - oil, gold, silver, other minerals, salt, precious stones, etc. History of mining from antiquity till recent. Must see if you are in the area!

Today we went to the museum for the second time and it’s just great. Besides all the underground mining shafts with large machinery and spectacular views from the tower top, there is also a very interesting and informative museum area about the history and future of mining from the Stone Age to today. There is also lots of hands on stuff for kids to do and try out. I’d recommend lots of time, as there is so much to see. I’d also suggest giving the snack area a try, as they have pretty original food for the location, which also tastes well and is priced reasonably. Full recommendation. 👌🏿👌🏿
