Marstallmuseum at Nymphenburg is considered to be one of the most important court carriage museums in the world. It is located in the old Horse Stable on the ground floor of the south wing at Nymphenburg. The museum is included in the (€9) entry ticket for Nymphenburg Castle. Opening hours are 9am to 6pm daily and 10am to 4pm during winter months.
We very much enjoyed browsing through the old Horse Stable and viewing the rich collection of beautifully decorated carriages of the Whittlebach dynasty. Highlights include the remarkable chariots of Charles Albert and Maximilian I amongst many others. There are information panels near most of the carriages providing historical details for those with interest.
You will also be able to see splendid winter sleighs and a neat horse portrait gallery. Take a few minutes to watch the video that is on offer at Marstallmuseum. Afterwards, make your way up to the second floor and you can view the private collection of Nymphenburg porcelains from the Nymphenburg factory. This is another remarkable holding that is easy to appreciate for those with such interests.

However, finding the entrance was a bit tricky, as the signs weren’t very clear. Once inside, though, the experience was well worth it. The museum is not too large, making it easy to explore without feeling overwhelmed. If you’re already visiting Nymphenburg Palace, I highly recommend stopping by the Marstallmuseum to admire these exquisite...
