Been there with my 2,5 years old daughter: she lasted there 1,5 maybe 2 hours. The museum is not giant, but it's enough for kids and good for adults. Nicely organized by eras, lots of information on cards. There is a table for kids to draw with pictures and pencils (for the first time I saw a pencil sharpener in the museum!!!!), a place to park your stroller. Many places to sit and have a rest (very important if you are in the third trimester). The museum shop has ok prices: I saw there the simple plastic Dino for like 17-20eur, the same price for the same size toy was in the shop in the mall nearby (but the shop is tiny, of course one can buy a smaller toy for less money). In front of the museum there is a giant playground, which is very nice and fits for the majority of ages. All in all, a great place to visit if...

The museum of natural history is a good place to take your kids if they are crazy about dinosaurs (ok, well, that applies to adults too). I particularly like the way the walkway to the entrance shows a relative timescale of the history of Earth and the evolution of life on the planet. The ticket prices are very reasonable, and are valid for the entire day. The exhibits start from the cambrian period with the wonderfully weird Ediacaran life forms, and are very thoughtfully planned and laid out. Even though most of the exhibits are casts and copies of actual fossils, that distinction is visible to the untrained eye, and not important to understanding the history of life...

The State Museum of Natural History at Stuttgart is a unique collection of several hundreds of dinosaurs, fossils, vertebrates, plants, insects, pre-historic humans etc and is one of the most important repositories for natural collections. Housed in three floors, it is also a great place for kids to watch and enjoy. Tickets are @5/3 Euros for adults/seniors and no charges for kids. There is a Cafeteria for snacks, beverages and ice creams. A shop inside offers soft and hard toys of animals for sale. The staff are helpful and great. It is great place to spend the day with family and children.
