Modern, well visited, small, low altitude ski area. Arriving: First off, avoid staying on weekends. This place is very touristy and gets packed on weekends with long lines on the lifts. Come on a weekday. There are a lot of car parks spread around the ski resort. If you arrive on a weekend, be sure to be there at least 30min before opening. Also check the skiliftkarussell website for weather forecast and what runs will be open. You can also buy you ticket online but I didnt like the fact that you have to order it home and cant pick it up at the resort (at least that was the case when I was there).

Snow/Weather: Since its a low altitude ski area, your experience may vary. Dont always expect a snow cover in town. So a spontaneous trip is mostly the best option to be sure to have snow. But one thing winterberg is good at, its snowmaking, so if everything is green and its 10°C for days, 90% of the ski runs will still be open. You dont miss out a lot of runs then. Since its mostly artificial snow it can happen after a freezing night, that the runs turn into pure ice, making some runs (like the black run at the St George ski jump) very dangerous slippery.

Ski runs: Most ski runs are pretty short and easy. Very beginner friendly area. My favorite runs are the Waldschneise on Kappe, Sürenberg and Poppemberg II. More challenging are the Kappe Slalomhang and the St George ski jump black runs.

Lifts: The resort has mostly chairlifts and most of them are very modern and high capacity (6 to 8 seaters) only the very beginner hills have drag lifts. Restaurants: There are a couple of good places to have a drink and have some good food.

Final Advice: Touristy beginner ski area, which can also be nice for a warm up for an upcoming trip to the alps. Profi skiers or offpiste skiers might not get satisfied here I advice to buy the Winterberg arena ski pass which includes also smaller less touristier local ski hills like Altastenberg, Willingen and Neuastenberg. Also definitely check out the Flutlicht ski (evening ski) every Wednesday and Friday from 7:30 to 10pm. It costs an upcharge but its very worth it.
