Nice stop when nearby. On the 8th of August 2024 the water was so turquoise that it reminded me of some of the beaches with the same colour on Zakynthos, Rhodes, Lefkada, Skiathos and Lefkada. It's my third time in Crete and I have to say that this is my first time seeing such colourful water on the island. That's why this place is unique and also because of the great opportunity for planespotters like myself to wath the aircrafts land smothly into Heraklion. In August, when the Meltemi wind hits, the temperatures are much more bearable and you can enjoy a nice afternoon here, even though the waves are big in the distance and you can't lay down on the fine sand that didn't fell like an oven on my feet. The only thing that was a little disappointing was that in some areas the water was full of rubbish, but you have to admire it's turquoise waves if you ever encounter them.
