The Acropolis (high city) of Rhodes is an interesting place to visit as part of your adventure to the medieval old city of Rhodes. The Acropolis was built during the Hellenistic Age from 500 - 300 BC. This was a time period when Rhodes had strategic value as an entrance to the Aegean Sea spanning from the Mediterranean, Greece and Macedonia. There are lots of ruins and remnants of structures throughout this park where you can find four massive columns (currently surrounded by scaffolding) of the temple of Athena and Zeus. The Odeon theatre and the stadium. There has been extensive restoration efforts made to unearth much of the structures, but there is much more to be done to have a better appreciation of this historic landmark. I suggest that you try to visit this location near sunset hours as there is a beautiful scenic walkway were you can enjoy a panoramic view of the waterfront coast line and of the Medieval city of Rhodes. Absolutely stunning! History in first person. Free to visit and open 24/7 In the past, the Acropolis of Rhodes overlooked the western part of the city. It was not, unlike most another ancient acropolis, this one wasn't fortified. The Acropolis of Rhodes was replete with sanctuaries, huge temple premises, and public buildings. The buildings were strategically built on precipitous terraces that were ably supported by impregnable walls. The Acropolis of Rhodes is one of the finest specimens of the Hellenic style of architecture that blended harmoniously with the surrounding environment The entire Acropolis is yet to be excavated. An exclusive archaeological zone which is all of 12,500 m2 has been segregated from contemporary edifices with the primary goal of carrying out long term excavation works that surely is going to provide fascinating insight of the Old City of Rhodes

If you are a person passionate about the ancient history of Greece, then you definitely must visit this place. If not, you can skip it, especially since there are so many other interesting places nearby. The ruins are exactly what the name suggests - just some ruins. There is not much to see - a few stairs, the old stadium, a poorly restored theater, and three columns from the Apollo's temple, but unfortunately, the columns are under renovation (and they may have been in this state for many years). As positive point: the entrance is free, there is a room where you can read a lot of information about the sports events in ancient Rhodes and, in addition, right at the exit from the acropolis there is a spectacular seafront boardwalk where you can take some incredible photos.

Here is what you can see at the Acropolis of Rhodes: amphiteatre which is in perfect shape (maybe restored?) where you can sit down and imagine you are watching a Greek play or witnessing offerings being made for Dyonissus. Then there's the Olympic stadium. Not restored but in great shape. Imagine athletes competing there! I wanted to run the stadium completely naked just like they used to but could not dear. Maybe you will? Post a pic! And finally there's the ruins of the temple of Apollo on the top of Acropolis. You can walk upon the ruins of the polis however the temple is fenced and you cannot come near it. Just stay in Acropolis for an hour or so and breath in the history as ancient as 2500 yeara! This site is worth it.

I have been to Rhodes many times but never visited, so glad i did. I walked up from the beach area, the road is tricky in some spots and you need to be careful as there is not much room for pedestrians. Once there, it is a little underwhelming, and your experience probably depends on your appetite for history and imagination. By and large, it is an open area with some rocks, but there is the stadium section and amphitheatre, both remarkably preserved, especially considering the state of the remainder. I am glad to have been, if only to tick this from my list. I probably enjoyed the walk more especially the view out to sea and looking at the many nice villas on my way there. Each to his/her own.

It is open all time. They are doing restoration work on the main 3 columns left from a temple. The small theatre looks new, so it is a replica of how it looked like. The circus is well preserved though. You can walk around, it is open and free. In google it shows open and closing times. However, we arrived when it was in theory closed and it was indeed open. There is a ticket booth on the top entrance, but it looks abandoned for years. The gates are open and no chains or signs that it will be closed. It will take you 20 to 30 minutes to see the whole place, mostly because it is difficult to walk around. There is no much to do around. It is not the acropolis if Athens or Lindos.
