The most chaotic airport I've been on in the past 2 years. The transfers aren't facilitated in any way as you are basically exiting from arrivals to enter departures again...and for a connecting EU flight - this doesn't make any sense. We've been told that a connection bus will wait for us and take us closer to the departure gate - that was not the case. It was just a regular bus that took us all over to gate B something and we had to go through security check and passport control all over again to reach departures. At passport control before gates A there were 2 ladies officers who randomly decided to close the booth in front of us because they thought there were already too many people in the security check lines even though their colleagues nearby kept scanning people's id's... This delayed us even more. The security check is way too close to the passport control - I agree there wasn't much space for the flood of people but they should've stopped all passport controls not just 2 booths. This only added to our stress to catch a connecting flight with 1h10min layover that was shortened to 40min due to delay of the first leg. We had to run through the whole airport to reach our gate and we only caught the 2nd flight because it was already delayed. The gate for our flight was changed 3 times. One time 2 flights basically switched gates while people were waiting in line to board. This is outrageous and resulted in people waiting in the wrong line and nearly missing their flight... And to add sprinkles to the top - they also...

Athens International Airport 🌟🌟🌟☆☆

My first experience at Athens International Airport was unfortunately not the best. ✈️ While it's a functioning international hub, the overall look and feel of the airport left much to be desired – lots of concrete and steel, and very little atmosphere or charm. 🏗️

I had purchased the fast lane service, but no one seemed to know anything about it. There was no clear signage or information, and I ended up going through the regular line, which was disappointing and frustrating. ❌🛃

On the positive side, the shops inside are quite decent and offer a nice selection of snacks, gifts, and essentials. 🛍️ And to be fair, the staff were friendly and tried their best to help, even though they didn’t seem well-informed about the services offered. 😊

📍Location: Well connected to the city via metro and taxis. 💵 Pricing: Standard, but the value of extra services like fast lane is questionable.

Athens Airport works if you're just passing through, but it definitely could use some upgrades – both in design and in service clarity. 3/5 for now, with potential for...

Dear All, Athens international Airport FOR TRANSFER was a disgrace. Let me explain myself, Flying from Bucharest with Tarom air to Athens with a connection flight to Larnaca. Flight landed in Athens at 18:10, connection was at 19:55 to Larnaca.

We were told to answer the red phone and explain that we don’t have printed boarding pass.

We had to wait for 90minutes (a whole Football match) for someone to arrive to help us with the passes. The time now is 19:40.

The lady once she arrived was extremely rude as if she was doing us a favor giving us the boarding passes. We arrived to our gate at 19:55, the time when we had to board.

If anyone from senior management is reading this , I kindly ask to explain to the staff at transfer desk to respect the passengers and to try to ease the procedure.

If you do not wish to have this problem, do not choose TRANSIT through Athens. FYI if you only wish to visit Athens its all good (beautiful city and good people)

Read all my account reviews, i rarely write bad reviews but this one was a...

★★★★★ Compact yet efficient gateway to Greece. Arrivals are a breeze thanks to clear signage and multilingual staff, and the 40-minute metro/Suburban Rail link drops you downtown without fuss. Inside, air-conditioned halls offer free fast Wi-Fi, plenty of charging points, and a hidden gem: a small archaeology exhibit with artifacts unearthed during the airport’s construction—an instant history lesson before you even leave the terminal. Food options run from grab-and-go souvlaki to specialty coffee and local craft beer. Seating and queues get tight at peak hours, but a €1.3 billion expansion now under way will add gates, lounges, and restaurants over the next few years, so the squeeze should ease soon. Overall, clean facilities, quick security, and friendly staff make ATH a smooth launch-pad to the islands—or a warm farewell from Greece.

Worst train system I’ve been on. A thousand people on the platform and the trains depart hourly from the airport and it’s a Metro. Vending machines don’t work and haven’t worked in who knows how long. But the advertising banners and screens are all shiny and new. Ticket system never accepts my bar code on my ticket. Have to plead a worker in a Hi-vis vest to let me in. The only reason why I still use the metro / suburban train is because the staff are doing their best with what they have and are very friendly. Communication is non existent, no Twitter / X account or other socials to be seen. The elevators are filthy and the platform clocks do not work. That’s just to mention a few. Terrible way to welcome tourists to Athens. But even worse for locals who use public transport everyday. Avoid if you can unless you’re desperate and patient.
