🇬🇧 Save this 1-Day itinerary for Rabat: 1️⃣ Start your day at the Hassan Tower & Mausoleum of Mohammed V before it gets busy throughout the day 👉 Entry is free Opening times: Daily 8 am - 6 pm (It is closed from noon to 2 pm for tourists) 2️⃣ Next stop is a walk over the old market of Rabat 3️⃣ Andalusian Gardens 👉Entry is free Opening times: Wednesday to Monday: 10 am - 5:30 pm 4️⃣ Kasbah des Oudayas 👉 Behind the walls of the fortress you will find picturesque narrow alleys and blue-washed houses. 5️⃣ End your day with a walk along the promenade and a view over the river Bou-Regreg. Other things to do in Rabat: 👉 Visit the Chellah, the ruins of an ancient city (unfortunately it was closed when we visited) 👉 Dar El-Makhzen, the residence of Kind Mohammed VI. Unlike other Moroccan royal palaces, you can visit the grounds, Opening times aren’t posted though, so you have to stop by and give it a shot. The Hassan Tower is one of the historical religious monuments, located in the Moroccan Rabat region, and the silo is a magnet for many Moroccan visitors and tourists, because it is an authentic Islamic architectural symbol, and it has a heritage and civilization value overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It was built in the era of the Almohad state, by order From Ya`qub Al-Mansour in 593 AH in 1197 AD. Hassan's silo occupied the first place in terms of size during his reign, but the construction of this silo was not completed after his death, and it was exposed to many circumstances that led to its demise, such as the earthquake that struck Rabat in 1755 AD, but it was rebuilt in 1962 by order of King Muhammad. Fifth. The silo was built from materials that were used in the construction of Andalusia in Morocco, and materials capable of withstanding and resisting the humidity coming from the Atlantic Ocean were chosen, such as carved stone, sandstone, and plaster, which mainly consists of lime, then marble and wood, and was supplied with water from Ain Agboula, through channels built by Youssef Al-Mansour. The dimensions of the Hassan silo are square in shape, its length is about forty-four meters, and it includes many stairs that reach up, and its yard includes many circular-shaped marble columns beautifully carved in addition to many fountains decorated with Islamic shapes and drawings that reflect a clear and vivid picture of High Islamic art, as it has two main doors, and in front of each door there are two Moroccan knights wearing traditional Moroccan clothes, riding two horses. The silo has a garden that includes many roses, flowers and trees, and fountains that are traditionally designed, and many traditional old lamps, so the visitor of the silo at night sees the magic of heritage, especially with the lighting directed at the silo, and it overlooks the mouth of the Bouregreg River, and a large mosque stands in front of it Prayer is held in it, and this mosque is one of the largest historical mosques in the Islamic world. This mosque was built in the traditional way, but each of its doors and walls were decorated with marble, carved stone and copper, which gave it an Islamic spirituality

Rabat Hassan Tower: It is part of what was to be the second largest mosque after Smarra in Iraq. What is left, the minaret or tower still impressive to see and of course photograph!! The construction of the mosque to which the tower was essential, started in 1195 as a celebration to the victory against the Spanish Christians in Alarcos. History tells us that the Great Earthquake destroyed the mosque hall, which the ceiling was made out of cedar, in1775. This is the same earthquake that destroyed another one of my favorite city, Lisbon in Portugal. The restoration of the columns and the tower gives one a glance of its size. Though it looks simple, it is considered one of the most intricate of all Almohad structures. This rectangular construction, which was intended to be 88-meters high, echoes the admiration, which Moroccans had for mosques since the dawn of the Islam Religion. In fact, this façade reminded me of another structure patterns I saw recently, the great Mosque of Cordoba. If you are interested on architecture and History, the Rabat Tower is a must seen. It is free and it makes a good background for photographs. In 1995 the tower became a UNESCO world heritage site. Remove bigotry from your life and travel!!

Description
Hassan Tower or Tour Hassan is the minaret of an incomplete mosque in Rabat, Morocco. It was commissioned by Abu Yusuf Yaqub al-Mansur, the third Caliph of the Almohad Caliphate, near the end of the 12th century.
