Not worth it, get a view elsewhere||||959950009||||We looked forward to the trip. 2 adults 2 kids. It was HOT. Reception staff excellent. Room was set to 20 degrees and it was cool.||||Aircon in the bedroom was too noisy. Room 118. Main room area was ok. Water pressure in shower and bath not high enough. All minor points with the exception of the noise from the aircon disrupting sleep.||||However. Then we came upon 2 major issues. Firstly this hotel isn’t cheap. It’s at most a 3 star. At MOST. I stay in a lot of hotels in Europe for work. This is in the middle of no where, a pain to get to and simply not worth the trek. Buy a post card. Avoid.||||The first major issue was the food. It is HORRIFIC. We have both had dodge stomachs for 2 days. Breakfast is bad. Not enough choice. They say “no need to rush for the start”. Yep, if you don’t the tables are not reset, the food is left to be cold and the area becomes worn looking. Basically buffet style dining doesn’t work in this hotel and should be avoided. Lots of fancy pictures of how meals look here. Simply doesn’t exist.||||Dinner much the same. Poor choice. Lazy cooking. There is clearly a desire to try to do something but it’s just the same old stuff chucked out for all to have. Same issues with the tables, not enough made up. No rapid reset when used. Wasp control is also an issue in the exterior and interior. Efforts made outside to be fair but more required.||||The 2nd Major issue…. The staff. Wow. The reception were amazing. Great English and willing to listen to my bad attempts at Hungarian. My apologies as always for my poor attempts.||||However, the dining staff are not focused on the customers. They are there to grab used plates. Fancy waistcoats doesn’t cover up a lack of actual service. Again, this is connected to the food. No interest in noticing us as a family looking for a table when we entered. No interest in walking us to find a table. Just a full on free-for-all.||||And then you get to the bar. Suffice to say 2 major attitude problems. One male one female. As an Irishman living in Scotland I was happy to order a latte and sit outside as thunderstorm after thunderstorm moved through. I was told when I asked if the young man with the well kept hair would be ok to bring my coffee out the back… he said “is it raining?”. I said a little bit. Then I won’t go out. So I said I would wait. I was then charged a service charge for carrying my own coffee to the sea of umbrellas where it was dry.||||But the perfect sign of the issues rests with on 20-25 your old blonde girl behind the bar. You cannot miss her. Her hair is in a pony tail that is very tightly worn. My fiancé was offloading some small change at the bar and she was rude, offensive and denied her to allow her to pay with small change. My fiancé is quiet and non confrontational and hence just paid to satisfy the illogical arrogant demands of this poor customer service rep.||||I spoke to the duty manager. A nice lady about 45-50yrs old. She apologised and said to my fiancé that this shouldn’t have happened. However, there was no sign that the blonde was spoken to or that feedback was delivered.||||So in closing, a nice area, not worth the trek for and unless they drastically attitude adjust some of the staff, and redesign the whole food offering will likely be out of business in the next 5 years.||||Spa offering is basic.||||Won’t be returning. Too expensive for what we experienced. Mostly let down by the food and the girl at the bar. Had the food been better we could have overlooked the odd issue. But it...

However. Then we came upon 2 major issues. Firstly this hotel isn’t cheap. It’s at most a 3 star. At MOST. I stay in a lot of hotels in Europe for work. This is in the middle of no where, a pain to get to and simply not worth the trek. Buy a post card. Avoid.

The first major issue was the food. Dinner much the same. Poor choice. Lazy cooking. There is clearly a desire to try to do something but it’s just the same old stuff chucked out for all to have. Same issues with the tables, not enough made up. No rapid reset when used. Wasp control is also an issue in the exterior and interior. Efforts made outside to be fair but more required. Coffee uses powdered milk, for this price is also outrageous.

The 2nd Major issue…. The staff. Wow. The reception were amazing. Great English and willing to listen to my bad attempts at Hungarian. My apologies as always for my poor attempts.

Spa offering is basic.

Won’t be returning. Too expensive for what we experienced. Mostly let down by the food and the blonde bird. Had the food been better we could have overlooked the odd issue. But it all...

A British friend and I (British-Hungarian) visited the lobby bar on Friday, 28 March, in the late afternoon. I have always loved the architecture and ambiance of the hotel, and I wanted my friend (visiting Hungary for the first time) to have a special experience at the Palota. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed by the inexplicable rudeness of the staff.

It was Happy Hour, and when I dared to ask what it included, the grumpy response was "cakes and coffee." After discussing our options, we decided to order specialty coffee, assuming it would be part of the Happy Hour discount. However, we were informed that only standard coffee was discounted. While this itself wouldn't have been an issue, the lady we spoke to was extremely rude and patronizing, saying things like, "That would be going a bit far, don't you think?" (In Hungarian: "Az már egy kicsit túlzás lenne, nem gondolja?"). How was I supposed to know? It was just a simple question.

Determined not to let this ruin our evening, we tried to enjoy the ambiance and ended up ordering cocktails and other beverages three more times (none of which were included in the Happy Hour and came with quite a hefty price tag). Not once did any of the waiters come to our table to check if we would like anything else, though they did attend to all the other guests. I always had to walk back to the counter. What's more, every time I went to order something, all three ladies serving at the bar looked at me with barely disguised annoyance.

Did this happen because we were not hotel guests and just wanted to enjoy a nice evening in this beautiful building? In any event, my friend originally wanted to book a stay with his girlfriend for the summer because he admired the building greatly, but he decided not to due to the rude staff. We chose not to have dinner at the Palota and instead visited the Tókert Restaurant just opposite, which I highly recommend. The waiters there were polite, attentive, and made us feel...

Lillafüred is a gem in every month of the year. My favourite is in fall when the whole Bükk is in orange-brown-yellow color. The Hotel is in perfect location, it is a sight for the eyes indeed. Beautiful inside-outside, you can feel the ages in the walls. I really like the windows next to the stairs for the first floor and the Mátyás restaurant. It has a unique atmosphere, definitely worth a visit. There is the cave and the waterfall under, a big garden, it just calls you to wander around. However, rooms are nothing extra. Food is nothing extra, they do not have proper coffee or juice for the breakfast which I guess should be basic, it is for most of the places. Dinners were great but anything you drink you have to pay in extra, and for me they are overpriced, like a 0,33 water for 2,5 eur. Parking is also extra. These are small things that will not make me say no to this place, but you would not expect these for this price range. Still, I recommend the place if you can allow it for yourself.

I could not recommend this place enough! Perfect for a weekend getaway. Lake nearby, a beautiful waterfall, breathtaking view from the chairlift nearby and hotel provides 20% discounts to many outside activities. The food selection is great, we did not find any difficulties finding food according to our diet. I would like to note as well that the stuffed eggplants and plum pie was so amazing, that I would love to have a recipe to recreate it at home. The live music program in the evening was amazing and different everyday. The room was clean, bright, the view from the room was amazing. Wellness area is also very well equipped and clean. We had a change to experience the special sauna ceremony from mister Attila and it is something so unique and unforgettable. All staff is very helpful and smily. I will definitely be coming back and would recommend this place to all my friends and family. Very very very good job and thanks for all the staff and administration!
