Pécsi dóm és környéke történetei A Pécsi dóm, hivatalos nevén a Szent Péter- és Szent Pál-székesegyház, Magyarország egyik legjelentősebb történelmi és kulturális emléke. Az épület és környéke számos érdekes és izgalmas történetet rejt. Romantikus és szép történetek A székesegyház alapjait a 4. század végén rakták le, és az évszázadok során többször átépítették. A középkorban a templom környéke a város szíve volt, ahol számos romantikus történet született. Az egyik legismertebb legenda szerint egy fiatal szerelmespár, akik nem lehettek együtt a társadalmi különbségek miatt, titokban találkoztak a dóm altemplomában. The building and its surroundings are filled with numerous interesting and exciting stories. Romantic and Beautiful Stories The foundations of the cathedral were laid at the end of the 4th century, and it has been rebuilt several times over the centuries. In the Middle Ages, the area around the cathedral was the heart of the city, where many romantic stories were born. One of the most famous legends tells of a young couple who, unable to be together due to social differences, secretly met in the crypt of the cathedral. Wild and Spicy Stories During the Turkish occupation, the cathedral was converted into a mosque, and the area became the scene of wild and spicy events. According to legend, Turkish soldiers often held feasts here that were not always decent. Historical Events and Changes The cathedral and its surroundings have witnessed numerous historical events. In 1064, King Solomon was crowned here, and the church burned down several times, only to be rebuilt. At the end of the 19th century, it was redesigned in its current Neo-Romanesque style by Friedrich von Schmidt. Changes in the Public Area’s Name and Character The name and character of Dóm Square have changed several times over the centuries. In the Middle Ages, the square was the city’s center, hosting markets and celebrations. During our river cruise when we landed at Mohacs, we were given two options. Either go for sight seeing at Mohacs or a tour to nearby Pecs. Most of us decided for second option. This beautiful cathedral also known as Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul is located neat pedestrian only square. Its foundation was laid in 11th century but the present day look was achieved only in 19th century after going through many turmoil. The interior of church is excellent with paintings of Hungarian saints and many events related to Bible. The cathedral museum has got one of the finest collection of Roman sculptures in Europe. There was also a specially organized organ concert for our group which was just too good.

A pécsi Székesegyház, vagy más néven Bazilika a Dóm tér 2 szám alatt, az óvárosban található - könnyen oda lehet találni, hiszen az egyik legimpozánsabb, legmonumentálisabb épülete ennek a gyönyörű mediterrán városkának. Úgy tudom, hogy 11. századi alapokkal rendelkezik, mai formáját a 19. századra érte el és főleg neoromán stílusú. Nekem nagyon tetszik, hogy minden szegletében van látnivaló, ha pl. felfele tekintünk, a homlokzati szobraira (apostolok), vagy éppen a gazdagon díszített ajtaját vesszük szemügyre. 4 tornya mondhatni irányadó, ha arra vitt az utam, mindig vetttem rá egy-egy pillantást - mert ezt a dómot egyszerűen nem lehet figyelmen kívül hagyni! Aki még nem járt Pécsett, annak persze érdemes a székesegyházon belül is körülnéznie - ha másért nem, hát azért, hogy imádkozzon egyet a szeretteiért és közben meghallgassa a híres Angster orgonát. Az előtte elterülő óriási tér is figyelmet érdemel Szepessy Ignác szobrával és természetesen a környéki épületek, múzeumok, vagy éppen Liszt Ferenc kissé ijesztő szobra a tér Barbakán felőli oldalán, aztán a mindig virágzó parkok, nyáron a működő szökőkút, akit érdekel, az ókeresztény sírkamrák, mellette vendéglátóegységekkel, de pl. az ún. pécsi Barbakán a körbástyával és kerttel is igen közel van a dómhoz és rövid sétával a Széchenyi-térre, közben a híres lakatokhoz visz az utunk. Vagy szintén nyáron felszállhatunk a sétány végében parkoló pécsi kisvonatra is. Ill. tudnám még javasolni a dóm mögötti ún. Kőtárat, egy érdekes, modern és néha meghökkentő alkotásokkal kialakított parkot, ahol kipihenhetjük a fáradalmainkat. Tettem fel képeimet, nem most készültek, de a pécsi Bazilikát körbefotóztam :) a 4 tornya jól látható Pécs különböző szegleteiből is.

Kézai Simon krónikájában Péter királynak tulajdonítja a székesegyház alapítását. A krónikaírók azonban a templom alapításával kapcsolatban tévednek. Az altemplom alapjait pedig már a 4. század végén megépítették. A Pécsi egyházmegye 1009-es alapításakor is állott már itt egy székesegyház. A krónikák szerint a második székesegyházat Orseolo Péter magyar király idejében építették a mai Dóm tér északnyugati részén. Salamon királyt Szent Mór itt koronázta királlyá.. 1064. április 11-én, háborúskodásuk befejezéseként Géza és Salamon együtt ülték meg a városban a húsvéti ünnepeket és kibékülésüket. Aznap éjjel tűzvész pusztította el a templomot és a palotát.. A harmadik székesegyház építése a 11. század végén kezdődött Szent Mór püspöksége idején, és 1140-1180 körül fejeződtek be. A mai dómtól északkeletre egy ókeresztény szenthely fölé kezdték építeni az öthajós altemplomot, amely alatt egy ókeresztény mártír sírja vagy ereklyéi voltak. A belső szobrászati elemeket észak-itáliai és francia mesterek készítették. A tatárjárás idején a várfal nélküli városban fekvő dómot felgyújtották, majd 1299-ben a muszlim Mizse nádor dúlta föl Pécset, a dóm tetőzete ill. mennyezete megsemmisült.[6] Végül a 14. század első harmadában beboltozták a mellékhajókat és két új kápolna is épült. Az egyik az északnyugati toronyhoz kapcsolt Fájdalmas Szűz kápolnája, a másik a délnyugati toronyhoz kapcsolódó Corpus Christi kápolna. Az újabb építkezések a 15. század második felében zajlottak, és az apszis ablaka fölé festett dátum szerint 1505-ben fejezték be. A vezető mester Demetrius volt. Ekkor vette fel a székesegyház gótika jegyeit, mint a nagy, műves ablakok, vagy a korra jellemző boltozatok
