It's the Main square of the City (HU: Pécs, DE: Fünfkirchen, HR: Pečuh, SR: Печуј). There are the most important buildings on and around it: the City Hall, the County Hall (of the Baranya County, which capital it is), the Court of the district, museums, and so on. The most significant and memorable sign of the City is the Mosque, which nowadays operates as a catholic church, but many elements of a mosque are saved and restored in one big part of this unique church. An older priest of this church said once: all the Muslims are also welcome to pray here to Allah. The older part of the building "breaths" literally in the Muslim religion. In the middle of the square there is the Statue of the Holy Trinity, as a remain of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire (such statues were founded in every City of this empire). I happened to visit during Zsolnay Fényfesztivál, and it totally brought the place to life! Live music, food stalls, people dancing—it felt like the whole city came out to celebrate. The atmosphere was electric but still cozy enough to relax with a coffee and people-watch. At night, the lights and the buzz made it even more magical.
