The Our Lady of the Visitation Cathedral (Hungarian: Sarlósboldogasszony székesegyház) also called Szombathely Cathedral or Cathedral of the Visitation of Our Lady is the name given to a religious building affiliated with the Catholic Church in the city of Szombathely it is the principal church of the Diocese of Szombathely. With the establishment of a diocese in 1777 the construction of a cathedral became necessary. A Baroque building in classical style began in 1791 and was completed in 1797. However, the interior work continued until 1814. The Cathedral of the Visitation is located in the ancient forum of the Roman city of Savaria. Melchior Hefele architect was responsible for the plans.

Sarlós Boldogasszony- székesegyház, a Szombathelyi egyházmegye főtemploma, Vas megye legnagyobb és legszebb temploma. A klasszicizáló, késő-barokk stílusú katedrális Magyarország egyik legnagyobb temploma. A 1791 és 1814 között épült. A székesegyház a város szívében, az egykori vár területén, a régi várpalota és a vártemplom helyén épült fel. Mellette fekszenek az egykori Savaria központjának, a helytartói palota és a Szent Quirinus bazilika romjai.

Sokszor visszatértem már ebbe a csodálatosan szép (szó szerint) székesegyházba. Magyarország harmadik legnagyobb temploma. Szily János első szombathelyi püspök építette. A II. VH végén, amikor már semmi értelme (soha sincs) nem volt a bombázásnak, akkor kapott hatalmas találatot és a teteje teljesen tönkrement, azóta sincs pótolva a sok szép mennyezeti freskó. Itt található Boldog Brenner János vértanú síremléke

Építését Szily János Szombathely első püspöke szorgalmazta, miután 1777-ben Mária Terézia VI. Pius pápa jóváhagyásával püspöki székhellyé emelte a várost. Az épületet Hefele Menyhért tervezte.

Nagyon szép templom. Nagyon szép falfestmények és freskók láthatóak. A tér felöli bejáratnál lévő üvegkoporsóban Szent Piroska mumifikálódott teste látható. Érdemes teljesen bejárni a hajókat. Oldalsó udvaron tiszta a nyilvános wc.
