The journey to Tirumala is as memorable as the destination itself. The ghat road from Alipiri consists of seven sharp hairpin bends offering stunning views of lush forests and valleys. The ascent is regulated — vehicles are issued a travel slip at the base, and must not reach the top in less than 27 minutes. If you do, a fine of ₹1000 is imposed, to ensure safe and careful driving.

Tirumala is also a strictly plastic-free zone. Before you begin your ascent, you will be stopped at a checking point at the foothills. Here, your vehicle, your bags, and even your person are thoroughly inspected. Any form of plastic — including bottled water, plastic bags, or packaging — is not allowed beyond this point. If you're carrying water bottles or snacks, they must be removed before proceeding. The goal is to protect the sanctity and ecology of these sacred hills, and this policy is enforced diligently.

The Tirumala Temple is nestled amidst the Seshachalam Hills, literally translating to "seven serpent hills." Legend speaks of these hills being the transformed bodies of seven giant serpents who offered Lord Vishnu their support.
