Very beautiful protected garden Lalbagh botanical garden situated in banagluru city has very rare species of plants. The floral clock was donated by the Hindustan Machine Tools one of the prestigious tools and watch manufacturing industries of Bangalore. Lalbagh is situated in the heart of Bangalore city and is the most sought after place in Bangalore for spending time leisurely while learning about most precious plants. It also houses a library which has very important books on lalbagh and its treasure. it is also a place for bird watching. The State Department of Horticulture has its headquarters here and is the custodian of lalbagh. it has training centre to training courses horticulture, nurserymen society supplying plants, cacti centre, bonsai collections and many more interesting places. one may require at least a day to go round the place andlern and enjoy its beauty. welcome to lalbagh The solar operated, seven-meter dial clock is one of the highlights of the garden. The clock stopped working nearly a month ago due to water seepage into the machinery. According to old-timers, this is the first time that the clock is being repaired.
Horticulture department recently got Rs 2.5 lakh sanctioned to repair the clock and it is said that the clock will tick back to life before the ensuing Republic Day flower show.
This floral clock is one of HMT’s seven signature clocks that were placed in select cities across India. The other variants are: tower clock, solar clock, population clock, display clock, master slave clock and international clock.
The floral clock was set up near the main entrance of Lalbagh in 1983. The clock uses an electronic oscillator regulated by a quartz crystal to keep time. The seven-metre wide clock has statues of popular fairy tale characters such as Snow White and Seven Dwarfs placed around it. Even though HMT has shut its watch manufacturing operations, these signature clocks have hardly seen any downtime.
“We take up annual maintenance and servicing of the clock. Sometime back, there was heavy water seepage into the clock’s main machine and it had stopped working. We had to get funds sanctioned for the repairs which will come up to Rs 2.5 lakh. All these years, the clock had no issues and this the first time that a big repair work has been taken up on the clock.
