Horrible experience. I've been here before years ago, but my visit on 15th July 2024 was the worst and enough to say, I'd never visit again. We went for a birthday lunch at their Waterside cafe restaurant, we wanted to order specifically but the waiter told us to go for buffet instead. We ordered drinks and followed as told and went for buffet. But that day, we couldn't eat a thing because the whole buffet spread was infested with innumerous flies. On the fried open items, on desserts, on salads, flies were visible sitting everywhere. The area had no insect repellent devices on sight, and the only measures they took was keeping a staff member with an insect killing racket who was fumbling over which location to even stand at because flies were everywhere and shifting from one food to another. We took some items as we had not yet noticed the flies, until they started piling on our plates, sitting on food items we took from the buffet hence we had to discard eating those, on the drinks we ordered its glass and straws, and everywhere else. We were disgusted and would rather not take food that could cause illnesses because flies do carry germs and it would be a terrible decision if we walked on uncertainty and ate those fly infested items. We checked the dessert section hoping something would be eatable but there too flies sat on the openly kept desserts and surprisingly none was there to watch over such a huge buffet spread hence allowing flies to be there. We reported to the authorities and the manager however the people that followed, were not willing to cooperate and said we are trying to demolish their "image" and had wrong intentions - from what? Reporting alot of flies in food. We were forced to leave as no one who came took accountability of such unexpected harmful experience yet one thing, we did pay. We're not there to harm their image, and hence we paid the full amount despite not being able to eat a thing that day. Later, till the time of writing this, our complaints via letters, authorities, and lawyers has been going on. They have not admitted their mistake even once, rather have insulted us, personally targeted us, tried to assassinate our and our lawyer's character via their own, have twisted their own order of events and tried to shut us down. Even going far as to compare us to other customers that if others didn't complain, our voice is just background noise and worth nothing. Till date, they claim the flies wasn't a big deal not realising that being the big establishment they portray themselves to be, it is very much expected to not see flies which can carry germs to be on food, isn't that what anyone would expect from a place where I went for quality and cleanliness? We never demanded replacement or compensation, we only demand - accountability. We wanted them to just admit their fault but they have set their minds on justifying flies than helping guests. My recent visit to Cafe mezzuna (South City Mall) on the other hand was an exact polar opposite to entirety of Hyatt Regency, Kolkata. There the manager noticed a single fly, on our coffee cup, and took it and sent a new cup without us telling him. Honestly, we ourselves didn't notice that fly, but he from somewhere did and was fast as light in replacing it. This shows the sheer difference, Hyatt a place with more people, and more flies, is ready to tarnish the experience of their guests for justifying themselves while another name in the same sector, Cafe Mezzuna with less people is ready to watch out even a single fly because to them, the guests matter more. And they apologised too, for a single fly and a single cup. Meanwhile, two years of letters and words, Hyatt has seen the images we took that day, yet has not even apologised for those multiple flies on every open buffet item and our tables. This is not to target nor compare anyone, this is just to tell what is expected from a place like Hyatt and what guests truly deserve to be treated as. Would never visit again, and hope it never repeats with...
Read moreIt's wonderful stay at Hyatt regency Kolkata. The rooms are spacious, mattress good quality, excellent amenities, buffet breakfast and kudos to all the service staffs. Front desk manager Mr Arindham sounds like a real star! It's so reassuring to know they were so attentive, even going the extra mile to receive and follow up on my courier, which was delivered before my check in. That proactive approach truly makes all the difference. And best was the extended checkout and club lounge access due to your membership – what a treat! Clearly, they know how to make their guests feel valued. They even got coffee machine in club lounge after we feedback to them, coffee machine was missed in club lounge, which we were used to using in all other Hyatt regency hotels.
The excellent food and dining experience is a huge plus too. Knowing the rooms were clean and well-maintained makes it all the more perfect. The only downside you mentioned was the pollution – unfortunately, that's a common issue in many big cities. Still, it sounds like the positives far outweighed the negatives, making it a truly "very good stay," as you said.
Small mention which is just feedback can make it better are : 1: at check in, reception lady failed to recognise, we are guest of honor, and refused to give us early check in, or upgrade of rooms, till we had to remind them. 2: Broken cracked glass in room, which partitioned bathroom and bedroom was not acceptable , even though they claim, they are aware about it, but no repair was done, and room was assigned to us, 3: it was difficult to get small change from reception, we failed twice, no follow up action, to help up,( it’s was meant for tips), 4: it would be nicer, if staff can orient us, how to use TV and different channels . 5: All wedding in hotels can make lot of noise due to loud music, disturbing other guest, may be consider giving rooms not facing swimming pool to them. 6: we received call from reception twice, both the days, when we were using shower with running hot water, they claim they have alarm set us for running water beyond certain timer, that was surprisingly pleasant.7: there are no power point charging next to bed, only available at desk. Which is usually now basic amenities, since all need to charge their handphones and gadgets .
Overall, I recommend Hyatt to all looking for great and...
Read moreDuring my recent stay at the Hyatt Regency Kolkata, I experienced a mix of positive aspects and notable drawbacks, leaving me with a varied impression of the hotel.
Pros:
Shaded Pool: The presence of a shaded pool offered a comfortable and relaxing spot for guests to unwind during their stay.
Cons:
Poor Food Selection: I found the food selection to be disappointing, lacking variety and failing to meet my expectations in terms of taste and quality.
Perceived Rudeness towards Foreigners: I encountered instances where both staff members and local guests appeared to be rude towards foreigners, creating an unwelcoming atmosphere during my time at the hotel.
Room Quality Issues: I noticed that the rooms seemed to be half-finished, with concerns about dangerous electrics and the presence of black mold throughout the room, raising serious hygiene and safety concerns.
Inadequate Fridge Conditions: The fridges in the rooms were not cooling properly, leading to worries about the functionality and maintenance of the appliances. Keeping the cupboard door open seemed to be the only solution to maintain a suitable temperature.
Hygiene Concerns with Provided Bottles: I observed hygiene issues with the provided bottles, as there was visible gunk around the rim of the lid, raising questions about the hotel's cleanliness standards and protocols.
Unpleasant Smell by the Pool Area: I noticed an unpleasant smell lingering in the air around the pool area, which, although it may have been due to the location, detracted from the overall relaxing atmosphere.
Inconsistent Room Quality: I found inconsistencies in the quality of the rooms, with varying standards from one room to another, suggesting potential issues with the hotel's maintenance and upkeep standards.
While the shaded pool provided a comforting retreat, my overall experience at the Hyatt Regency Kolkata was marred by concerns over food quality, hygiene standards, and room conditions. I hope that the hotel management takes necessary steps to address these issues, ensuring a more satisfying and comfortable stay for future guests, in the end myself and my colleagues left early due to the safety concerns...
