Had been meaning to visit this place for a long time and finally went there for dinner yesterday. The place is extremely spacious, well designed, has a gorgeous moody vibe, and offers both indoor and outdoor seating. While the service was a bit slow, the staff were extremely warm and hospitable. Unfortunately, that's where the good things end and our dining experience mostly turned out to disappointing because the food was below par.
We ordered:
2)Beachside Seafood Sampler, Rs. 659- 1/5. The platter conisisted of 4 fish fingers, crispy calamari, and 4 pieces of grilled shrimp served with three dips and lime wedges. The fish fingers were thinner than a kid's finger, the calamari had a thick coating and the squid was cooked/fried to death until it had become something akin to tyres. The prawns, even though juicy, lacked seasoning and the cajun flavour. The dips were quite good though.
Chicago Meat Market Deep Dish Pizza, Rs. 899 for the regular size- 2/5. Our main reason for visiting Uno was to try their famous deep dish pizza and boy, were we disappointed. The pizza wasn't deep at all and hardly had the toppings listed on the menu. I could only taste and see slivers of pepperoni and lamb mince. No roasted chicken or meatballs. The crust was thick, doughy, and dry. Apart from this, if the pizza contained parmesan cheese or not, I couldn't tell because I could only taste commercial mozzarella cheese.
Chicken Spinoccoli Pasta, Rs. 659- 4/5. We had ordered Baked Stuffed Chicken Spinoccoli which is served with mashed potato and sautéed veggies. However, there was a confusion among the servers and they served us the version with pasta. When brought to their attention, they urged us to try it anyway and served us the mashed potato and veggies from the original dish as well. The chicked is stuffed with tomatoes, broccoli, and cheese served on a bed of creamy pesto pasta and a slice of garlic bread. The portion size was generous and the pasta was cooked a tad bit more than al dente. The sauce was creamy and thick, but lacked the flavour of pesto. The chicken was juicy and cooked well, the cheese was properly melted inside and veggies was perfectly done. The cheese on top was overbaked though and had become chewy in the process. Coming to the sides, the mashed potato was buttery, silky, and perfectly seasoned. The sautéed veg retained its crunch and was flavourful. Lastly, the garlic bread was dry, but a good vessel to mop up the sauce nonetheless.
Insanely Large Chocolate Cake, Rs. 699- 3/5. The spong was airy with chocolate whipped cream between the layers and a thin chocolate ganache on top. It tasted okay and nothing more than your average generic chocolate cake. Served with vanilla ice-cream, whipped cream, a drizzle of chocolate syrup, I didn't feel it was worth the price. Definitely didn't live up to its hype.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend Uno to anyone I know. Maybe it was an off day for them but I don't think I'll be...
Read moreWe popped in enquiring if this place has a rooftop or not, and a yong lady refused and said that this is not the UNO we were looking for. Sad story, we went to the left driveway to ask the security gaurd and confirmed the place that we wanted to go by referencing it from the Zomato app. We had already thought of visiting Beer Republic instead to save ourselves from another embarrassing moment inside. But we tried again to hop in as we really wanted to try their pizza.
We went in again, and that young lady hesitated that they didn't have a rooftop and straight off reqested is to look somewhere else, then I referenced the Zomato app to her and she said that it is this same place but it is not a rooftop cafe. We went in inside regardless of her saying it is not a rooftop cafe.
We ordered our meal, and had a small talk with a waiter and he gave us a detour of the place with a great smile and a much better attitude than the girl. We ordered our food downstairs neer the bar and decided to explore the upstairs as he suggested when he enquired.
We went upstairs and found ourselves a nice cozy place to be in. Now we found out that the place which Zomato was featuring in their rooftop collection at Calcutta was a verendaah (balcony), which the young lady downstairs could have easily clarified on her part.
Now we visited this place on a Saturday evening at around 7, so the the place wasn't filled yet. We loved the decoration and the DJ's playlist made me grooving with classic rock to cathcy EDM tunes.
We had ordered Southern Peach Lemonade which tasted good. My better half loved the Raspberry Lemonde for whcih she will visit this place again as the first thing we ordered was out of stock which was this place's bestsellers was the Parmesan Mozzarella Sticks. So we went with Loaded Cheese Fries and Fajita Cottage Cheese Quesadilla. And Blazing Hot Deep Dish Pizza! Trust me it was the best veg pizza I ever had. (I am sorry to myself for having a veg day on that particular day)
We were so full we had to pack 3 of the 8 slices as the pizzas were so amazing and fully stuffed. And when generously requested they provided us a mayonnaise dip free of charge! So nice of them to provide this hospitality.
We loved the staff except for the yong lady near the doorway, for whom we were nearly missing the amazing experience we had. By the time we were leaving the place was already full, but there were places still left in the area upstairs where we were seated.
Will surely visit this place again for the starters, Lemonde and the desserts, ofcourse the Pizza, as Zomato says it is the...
Read moreHas been a constant favourite food joint since it opened its doors in Kolkata. Fantastic food, wonderful ambience and the overall vibe of this place is over the top. Their signature dish is their Deep Dish Pizza which comes in multiple variety. However, almost every other food item on their menu is worth trying, including their thin crust pizzas. Their seafood platter is also wonderful, especially if one chooses to accompany it with a nice cocktail from their menu in their lounge. The ground floor has a more restaurant-ish vibe to it whereas the 1st floor is a lounge with a proper bar and TV sets to watch an ongoing match or something, decorated in a more vintage style. The first floor also has two balconies; one overlooking the main street and the subhash sarovar and the other small one overlooking the outdoor seating area at the back. The decor is extremely aesthetic and top-notch, which is elevated with their fantastic choice of music. Both the ground floor and 1st floor are superb in their own ways. If the weather supports, one can also choose to sit in their outdoor seating area at the back, which is also where UNO hosts its performances like DJ nights or other gigs on the scheduled evenings. It is perfect to visit with friends, family or even for a casual meal with colleagues. Great for couples too, especially for those who would like a fun dinner date. Price range is slightly on the upper average range, although pretty decent considering the standard of food and experience. Adding to that they have a wide range of offers going on almost at all times, both in-house as well as through third-party apps like dineout or Eazydiner. So do keep an eye out for those if you are planning to visit. If you plan to visit during busy hours, do make a prior booking to avoid any waiting time. Overall a 10/5 for their food, ambience and...
