"A LOTUS FLOWER FLOATING ON THE MUD" Cons and negatives 1)Location Google maps location for 1st time visitors will surely confuse you to reach the location especially at night time, Took us almost 20mins to find the place even post reaching it as even the hospital premise beside it no one had a clue about "East India room" Worse part no telephone number listed on Google to ask for guidance. 2)Parking After finally reaching at 8:30 p.m outside the rajkutir resort we were told there is no valet parking and we need to go straight then right to park the vehicle. There were no sign boards suggesting or guiding directions for parking in fact a no parking and exit board is all that was shown. Parking spot discovery took another 5mins. The location from parking back to restaurant is a 5minute spooky walk as there is no one and I mean literally no person visible with the old havelli kind of spooky fills. After finally reaching the resrurant at 8:45 p.m,which screams out delightful Victoria kind of ambience with a bite of history and culture of Bengal we were mesmerized at the interior planning and colors and it took away all the stress of reaching the spot as it was worth it we ordered stuff from chefs recomendation. The pros and the borderlined cons Pro #1)As complimentary welcome drink we had a nice gondhraj Lemmon soda which was refreshing to go along with bread and different kind of butter. We were excited for the food to finally dive in the flavors on east india room delicacies. CHIMNEY CLEAR BROTH The soup has some noodles and exotic BOILED veggies served in a bowl with some hot water with added flavors making up as the liquid base. To our utter shock the soup was not even hot so we asked it to be warmed up. So he asked to serve the starter before the soup which actually doesn't go with the feel. STARTER ARRIVES BEFORE SOUP @9p.m PRO#2)For all vegetarian this is the only major plus thing to order for it was very different to things we have at regular restaurants. Bandel cheese Malakoff It was an extremely finely made starter fried layer with cheese and some tofu in internal chords to go along with sweet chutney. Cut 2...Soup re arrives @9:10p.m With only a slight difference in warmth which hardly lasts for 2 to 3 mins. #pleasehurrysir To another shock just as the soup came the waiter comes and tells us at 915p.m sir last order is at 9:30p.m as per covid rules. It's obnoxious to ask someone who is having a soup to jump the gun to order main course in the interim. P.s in the exact opposite table to us later on they ordered main course at 9:45 p.m sharp Anyways we went again as per chefs idea to order dal makhani called national high dhaba dal and cossimbazar handi paneer which is just like the paneer butter masala in normal terms.Roti falka was ordered as breads. Average stuff The good part was paneer was fresh n veggie was hot, Dal was slightly spicy as a 5 year old child was with us couldn't eat it. Falka were very very thick which is very rare. The good thing is quantity of dal and sabji were very good so next time between a family of 2 adults 1 child even one vegetable is enough. As the resort is exotic with interiors and posh with prices we least expected u.p.i payments to be accepted however was a let down to hear only cash and card accepted. The sweet stuff. An overall average experience was made pleasant with a brownie cake they provided us as it was my wife's bday. The portion was adequate, delicious and very well decorated. The manager and stewards were good with hospitality apart from the hurry up for last order request. All in all a once a lifetime experience to remember for interiors some spooky experiences en route and a sweet ending. Do visit it once for capturing good memories.

Soak into the colonial hangover once more in style. The menu is a curated one hence not too lengthy...just selected items...the main course items have common bengali delicacies but I gave them a pass I wanted to taste something unique so selected the darjeeling tea tossed beckti fillet and loved it. The jali mutton kebab is just about Ok..quality of lamb is good. Prices are around 650 plus...I would recommend having a cup of tea here...nicely presented on a wooden tray with a glass tea pot,cup and whole arrangement was a complete feel good. Desserts include monte carlo, caramel custard, misti doi, rosogolla, ice cream if you like. There is a selection of alcohol available ask gor it separately. This space would sit around 40 people. Shout out to the staff coutesy...appreciate it. I really wish for a nice chicken omlet, toasts and pancake in the menu please if possible!

Such a lovely place to have lunch. This place is resplendent with the vibe of a bygone "bonedi" era in Calcutta. The hotel has a huge space right in the middle with trees around it. The restaurant itself gives an amazing experience of the Bengali platter. The chingri macher malai kari and mutton (so-good-that-the-meat-came-off-the-bone) went really well with the basanti polao. I would personally recommend the mutton spring roll or something like that which I ordered (can't recall). It was delicious. There's a little room for improvement in the desserts (personal view) but the taste was good and is recommended. Service was prompt and fast. The sous chef personally came to ask if we liked what was served and the answer, quite obviously, was a big yes. Definitely would love to visit this place again.

Colonial menu, brilliant décor and great service makes East India Room special. However, there are a few things which they need to improve if they want the tables booked. Pricing must be there in the menu ( I cannot find that mentioned in the menu uploaded in Zomato). By paying INR 1700 (which is what mentioned in the zomato page) you can get one starter, one main and may be one dessert as most of the dishes are priced in between 400- 800 and beyond; plus taxes. This was a bit misleading. We paid INR 3800 for one prawn cocktail, one mulligatawny soup (a must have), one chicken a la kiev ( they served it undercooked however upon showing they changed it immediately), one fish meuniere (brilliant it was) and one baked alaska (too good taste-wise however size was disappointing) along with 2 cold drinks. All the items mentioned are for sure amazing when it comes to taste. Taste wise no complaints however, they must think about the portion size as the pricing if compared to the similar properties are way on the higher side. The dessert though tasted brilliant but nano-sized considering the price (approx 500) and so was other items. Basically for two people you need 3 mains.

5 stars from my side, are for the taste, service and décor and the complementary freshly baked bread ÷amazing it was) ; deducted 2 considering the over-price and...

Had a terrible experience yesterday when I was there for a festival lunch. The look & feel of the place was beyond expectation, only if they could have spent some more time & money on the quality of food. We had ordered for the following items Baked Crab Baida Roti Shrimp Cutlet Jaali kebab Cheese Malakof Morog Pulao Mutton dak bungalow Pork Chop

The horror story started from the 1st service - Baked Crab. It had less crab & bigger pieces of plastic in them. We had to take effort to convince the management that those were actually plastic chunks.

Then came the shrimp cutlets which had twice the salt than needed. 7 people including the shelf agreed to the same & the item was taken back. After discussing with the chef, it was agreed that he would serve only those items which he was comfortable with. So the chef cancelled the Baida Roti.

We were more or less done with lunch when there were more surprises waiting for us

Jali Kebab & Cheese croquets were below par

The pork chop was over cooked & it had 80:20 fat meat ratio. The accompaniments with the pork chop was nice.

I was done with my lunch when my friends were actually struggling with the morog pulao & mutton which were eventually packed as a doggy pack.

A sincere request to the management to not spoil such lunch occasions of guests.

Thanking...
