The Trisala Bhagavathi temple is situated 500 meters east of Mankave junction on the Calicut -Meenchanda mini bye pass. The temple is in the central part of the Padinjare Covilakam, a branch of the Zamorin’s swaroopam. The temple was built in the early years of 19th century by the then Zamorin popularly known as Karyasthan Thampuran. This temple is dedicated to goddess Bala Durga. The Devi is worshipped as a small girl playing with a ball in one hand. It is believed that Trisala Bhavathi is the younger sister of Sree Valayanadu Devi, the family deity of the Zamorin’s Swaroopam.
During Tippu Sulthan’s padayottam, the members of the Padinjare Covilakam escaped to the Travancore where the then Maharaja of Travancore, Karthika Thirunal Rama Varma (popularly known as Dharma Raja) welcomed them and gave Kunnathur Kovilakam in Kollam District for their domicile. They lived there for about 50 years. When the situation in Calicut became normal and peaceful, the Zamorin rehabilitated his family members to a place in Calicut close to the Valayanadu Devi temple. At that time this area was in the custody of Mangalassery Nair family. The Nair family gave this plot to the Zamorin for building the kovilakam. At that time this place was a wilderness. Elderly people of the locality believe, from the stories passed on from generations, that there was an ancient temple of Bala Durga which was demolished at the time of the Mysoorian invasion of Malabar. At the time of clearing of the trees for building the kovilakam, the hatchet of one of the labourers touched a stone and blood oozed from it. Seeing this strange phenomenon, the matter was reported to the Zamorin Raja. At the deva prasna it was revealed that the sila was the idol of Bala Durga. Accordingly a temple was built on the spot and worship began. The sankalpa of the deity is that of the devi of kanyakumari, who is believed to bless children and maidens who desire to achieve excellence in education, music etc. The Padinjare Kovilakam Valiya Thamburatti is the trustee of the Temple. The manager who looks after the day to day affairs of the temple is appointed by the Valiya Thamburatti. At present the temple has an extent of 2.5 acres. The structures thereon are sreekovil, namaskara mandapam, chuttambalam, nata-pandal, gopuras, bhagavathi kettu, office building and a small auditorium and a tank. The square eka-thala sreekovil faces east. The idol of the Bala Durga is made up of Krishna Sila of height 37cm with four arms, two hands displaying a conch and a disc while the other two show abhaya and varada mudras. There is no other idol in the temple. The walls of the sreekovil are painted with several mural paintings. On the eastern side there are figures of dwarapalakas standing on serpents, with sword and soola in hands. On the southern side are Lord Dakshinamoorthi (in meditating pose) and Ganapathi. The painting on the western side depicts the goddess with eight arms and weapons in hand, along with Lord Narasimha with Lord Brahma and Devas with folded hands. On the northern side are Srirama and Lakshmana with bows and arrows and Lord Krishna.
The temple remains open from 5.30 AM to 8.30AM in the morning and from 5.30 PM to 7.30PM in the evening. Three poojas, namely, Usha pooja, Ucha pooja, and Athazha pooja are...

Valayanad Bhagavathi is the family deity of the Zamorin Kings ( Ilayidath Swaroompam ), who ruled Kozhikode in the medieval period. Legends say that in a fight between the Zamorin and Valluva Konathiri (the king of Valluvanad), the Zamorin got defeated in spite of having better military and financial might. The Zamorin pondered this, and decided that the Bhagavathy's blessings were with Valluvakonathiri. The Zamorin undertook Tapas in disguise, at Thirumanthamkunnu temple, the family temple of Valluvakonathiri, until Devi manifested before him.
The Zamorin requested Bhagavathy to come to his kingdom. While they were travelling, Devi told Zamorin that whenever he hesitates and turns back to check whether Devi was with him, she will return immediately. After some time, when the jingling of her dance-bells could not be heard, the Zamorin looked back. Immediately Devi told him that she wouldn't come any further, but as a reward for the Zamorin's devotion, would throw her bangle, and the spot where it fell would have her presence. This bangle rotated for a week and landed at the place where the temple now stands. The place where the bangle rotated for a week came to be known as Azhchavattom and the place where the bangle fell became Thiruvalayanad
Valayanad Devi temple, dedicated to Bhagavathy, is situated in Valayanad on Mankavu Govindapuram route in the city of Kozhikode. The temple, which faces north, has four gopurams. It is one of the Saktheya temples where pujas are performed in accordance with practice of Rurujit worship. The presiding deity of this temple is the goddess from Kashmir, known as Chandika, also called Mahartham and Kalasarppini.
The Sreechakra, designed by the great Sivayogi Thayyavur Sivasankar, remains in the sanctum sanctorum, where the presence of the goddess is believed to be ever present. Idols of Shiva, Thevaara Bhagavathi, Lord Ayyappa, and Vigneswara, Khsethrapaalan are also consecrated in this temple.
