I read about Bombay Panjrapole in the Lonely Planet and made sure that it was on my list of to do when in Mumbai. My impression prior to the visit was that Bombay Panjrapole was a shelter for homeless cows and other animals in Mumbai. On the surface Bombay Panjrapole looked well run â all the animals look healthy and well fed. However, on closer inspection I noticed that all the cows here are the one bread and that there seemed to be a disproportionate number of calves. I am sure that Bombay Panjrapole started with good intentions however I feel that it has now become a breading centre for the cows as opposed to finding a place for those on the street. Perhaps they use the funds raised for other projects (it was a couple of Rs to buy food to feed the cows) I do not know, however overall I left the âshelterâ feeling saddened that I had witnessed an almost âpuppy-farmâ like organisation.    Read moreThe concept of panjrapole comes from the villages where cows were donated so as temple could use the milk for preparation of prasad usually kheer and sometimes mava and other sweets. In many cases part of the milk was given to children of underprivileged as well. the nagar sheth in villages and in case of a place like mumbai the merchants from near by market areas of bhuleshwar, tamba kant, zaveri bazar, cotton exchange were patrons. in the hindu rituals GOW DAN or what can be said as Donation of Cow to the panjrapole and feeding these cows was considered as a Seva to society. With the above giving details of the idea of Panjrapole, the current one is a touristic place for most Mumbaikars and foreigners as this is a novelty in a crowded place like south Mumbai and that too bhuleshwar. Kids would love to see various birds like parrots and budgerigars occasionally money as well. kids can get to feed cows and calfs as well this interaction is helpful in many ways a must visit place...
   Read moreThis place is situated near bhuleshwar...it has many cows and calfs as well.....they even sell pure cow milk ......other then cows ...there are other domestic animals as well like duck,love birds,parrot,hen,rabbits,pigeons,sparrow,etc. There is a big kabutarkhana for all the pigeons where one can offer chana or jowar to the pigeons...also one can offer grass and ladoo to the cows there....the best thing abt this place is that all the injured domestic birds and animals found injured can be cured here and proper care is taken.Not only that,it is also a tourist attraction....which have many tourists visiting it.....the best time to visit this place is in the morning around 7.Would recommend this place to all the tourists and...
