Our Lady of Angels Church (also Eglise de notre Dame des Anges, White Chapel, Kaps Koil, Dumas Church or Domas Church, Etc.) is the fourth oldest church in Puducherry. Architect Louis Guerre built the original structure in Greco Roman architecture for Napolean III in 1855. The upper part of the church was made in the Ionic style and the lower part was made in the Doric Style which are both classical styles of architecture. It is said to be based on Notre Dame de Paris in Paris and the Basilica at Lourdes. There were four churches in the campus and British demolished and converted it into two orphanages.
It is the only church that offers mass in three languages - ie. French, Tamil and English (with hourly prayer and daily services). Our Lady of Angels Church is Roman Catholic Church. The chapel was controlled by Capuchin priests (hence name Kaps Koil), then by Holy Spirit Fathers and finally by Foreign Mission Fathers from Paris (1887).
King Napolean III donated an oil painting of Our Lady of Assumption to the church. A statue of Mother Mary with Baby Jesus in her hands Stands separately, in the compound (Pls Ref to our Photos).
