Madame Shanthés Café Restaurant — Restaurant in Puducherry

Owner of the restaurant does not even have the basic etiquette of talking politely. He resorted to manhandling and shouting at us.

Full story : we went there with our families and children but it was so hot on the terrace that we could not sit there long. We asked to sit in the enclosed ac room but the lady waiter said AC is not working even though it was and 2 people were sitting inside..by that time some people in our group had ordered some food and a couple of bottles of beer. But due to the hot and humid conditions we decided to go to some other restaurant. Since the food was ordered barely minutes ago hotel staff agreed to cancel the order. But by then someone brought beer. We agreed to pay for it and leave but they lady waiter brought another bottle when we were about to leave, which didn't go too well with us and we complained about it. By then the owner came and started shouting. 2 ladies from our group started recording him which got him miffed and he armtwisted them and pushed them and started shouting.

This got us involved as well. When he realised his fault rather than accepting it, he started shouting even more and threatened us saying he is in business from last 25 years and will not let us leave the city. He also started falsely accusing us of being drunk.

There was a lot of commotion and the staff tried to pacify us rather then asking the owner to apologize for his behaviour.

Arguments happen but no one has a right to manhandle women.. That too in a public place in a restaurant...and then threaten their guests to not allow to leave the city without consequences.

I would advice everyone to think twice before visiting this place. Our trip to Puducherry and our memories are ruined.. Would advise others to not...

I visited the restaurant in afternoon for lunch. Ours was the only table occupied. The food was average. On asking for the bill, they said the server was down and cannot provide a printed bill. They handed me a handwritten bill. I made the payment and asked for the bill to be stamped as paid. They started looking here and there for stamp and said they don't have one. I insisted on a bill so they then came out with a printed copy of the bill where the amount was less than what I had paid. Their explanation, the rates have increased today only. It was the last day of the month, who does so on a Thursday and last day of the month??. On further enquiring they said the rates would go up from tomorrow 1st. They handed me an additional bill of the excess amount they had charged which I never consumed. The staff were cheats and might have done the same trick with others as well. I would strongly recommend not to visit this place. They are not professional. 1 star is for the average food.

Dear MJF Antony, Thank you for taking time to reply to my review. I guess you are confusing me with some other guest of yours. Firstly, I didn't have any beer or liquor at your place. Secondly, there were no other guests in the restaurant when I visited and I was sitting on the corner most table behind me was the wall. So you stating that other guests in the restaurant also complained is not true. My suggestion, look into what your staff is doing before giving out replies on google. God bless you too. Thanks again.
