Review of Chattar Manzil

Chattar Manzil, or the “Umbrella Palace,” is one of Lucknow's most iconic landmarks, embodying the city's Nawabi heritage and architectural brilliance. Constructed in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, it served as the residence of the Nawabs of Awadh and later became a significant site during the Indian Rebellion of 1857.

The architectural style of Chattar Manzil is a captivating blend of Indo-European and Nawabi influences. Its most striking feature is the dome crowned with a unique umbrella-shaped structure, which gives the palace its name. The interiors, though weathered over time, were once adorned with intricate carvings and opulent decor that reflected the Nawabs' grandeur and sophistication. The palace's location along the banks of the Gomti River enhances its scenic appeal, making it a picturesque spot for visitors.

Historically, Chattar Manzil is significant as it served as a strategic site during the First War of Indian Independence. The palace housed revolutionaries who resisted British forces, adding layers of historical depth to its aesthetic allure.

In recent decades, the monument suffered neglect, leading to deterioration. However, government and conservation groups have initiated restoration efforts to preserve its legacy. Today, it stands as a symbol of Lucknow’s regal past and resilience.

A visit to Chattar Manzil offers a unique experience, combining architectural marvels, historical significance, and cultural richness. It is a must-see for history enthusiasts, architecture lovers, and those seeking to delve into Lucknow's...

Chhatar Manzil, located in Lucknow, India, is a captivating architectural marvel that I had the pleasure of visiting. This historic building, with its distinctive Indo-European architecture, left a lasting impression on me.

The most striking feature of Chhatar Manzil is its distinctive umbrella-shaped domes, which give it a unique and eye-catching appearance. The blend of architectural styles, combining Indian and European influences, is a testament to the cultural diversity of the region during the Nawabi era.

Exploring the interior of Chhatar Manzil is equally fascinating. The ornate decorations, the grand halls, and the intricate artwork on the walls and ceilings are a visual delight. It's a place where history and art come together in a magnificent way.

The location, situated on the banks of the Gomti River, offers beautiful views and a serene atmosphere. The gardens and surroundings make it a peaceful and picturesque spot for visitors to enjoy.

Chhatar Manzil is not only an architectural gem but also a symbol of Lucknow's rich history and cultural heritage. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an architecture lover, or simply looking for a place with unique charm, Chhatar Manzil is a must-visit...

It is one of most amazing monuments here.. you will surely enjoy...it is a huge ornated structure at the heart of the city.. its beauty will surely make your blown away. The Chattar Manzil or Umbrella Palace is a building in Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh which served as a palace for the rulers of Awadh and their wives .This place is good for adventure lovers. The best thing is that noone comes here to visit, so you have all your time for fun. Although the place is creepy, so better not to come with children or family. But with friends, this place is so cool. There is a tunnel also, and what is good is that it is open. You may go inside. Also the building is strange. When you walk in it, you might feel of being in a game like Max Payne. These days, they are renovating the place, so it might be that in future this place may turn into a museum and the cool creepiness might be lost. So better to come here before everything...

Chattar Manzil Or Umbrella Palace is a building which served as a palace for Nawabs and their wives of Lucknow. Chattar Manzil situated on the banks of Rover Gomti near Qaiserbagh and Hazratganj. Its Mughal architecture design is very eye pleasing even nowadays when it becomes a ruined structure. It was constructed by order of Nawab Ghaziuddin Haider and completed after his death by his successor, Nawab Nadiruddin Haider. The Chattar Manzil consisted of a Bari (larger) Chattar Manzil and Chhoti (smaller) Chattar Manzil, however only the larger one still exists. The Palace has gone through many owners including the Nawabs of Awadh Saadat Ali Khan and Wajid Ali Shah, and the Britishers and changes since its construction was started in the 1780s. It's not a very great sight to go to but if you have enough time in lucknow you can visit.

Chattar Manzil, the former resident palace of the Nawabs. The Chattar Manzil, also known as the Umbrella Palace, is a magnificent example of beauty, grandeur, and the engineering construct of the yore Mughal reign in the city. Though, it is a significant tourist attraction, several facts about the Chattar Manzil remain unearthed, much like the Monument itself. The Chattar Manzil or Umbrella Palace was built by Nawab Ghazi-dd-din Haider but was completed only after his death by his son, Nawab Nasir-dd-din Haider. The Palace was used as the Nawabi residcence until Nawab Wajid Ali Shah shifted bases to Qaiserbagh. Overlooking the banks of River Gomti, the architecture of the palace is the definition of acculturation and the Palace design is an amalgamation of Indo- European and Nawabi constructions.
