Kota Tua Jakarta (also known as Old Batavia or Batavia Lama) is a historical district in North Jakarta, Indonesia, located on the northern edge of the city, encompassing the 17th-century Dutch colonial center of the city and its surroundings. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited areas in Jakarta and the largest concentration of surviving 17th and 18th-century buildings in Indonesia. History In 1619, the Dutch East India Company (VOC) established a trading post in the area, which was then known as Sunda Kelapa. The post quickly grew into a major trading center, and in 1621, the VOC decided to build a fortified city around it. The city was named Batavia, after the Batavian tribe that inhabited the area. Batavia was the capital of the Dutch East Indies from 1621 to 1942. During this time, the city grew into a major commercial and cultural center. It was also a center of Dutch colonial power in Asia. In 1942, during the Second World War, Japanese forces occupied Batavia. The city was renamed Jakarta in 1945, after Indonesia declared its independence from the Netherlands. Today, Kota Tua Jakarta is a popular tourist destination. The district is home to a number of historical landmarks, including the Fatahillah Museum, the Wayang Museum, and the Bank Indonesia Museum. It is also home to a number of restaurants, cafes, and shops. Here are some of the most popular attractions in Kota Tua Jakarta: • Fatahillah Square: The main square in Kota Tua Jakarta, and a popular spot for people-watching. • Museum Fatahillah: A museum dedicated to the history of Jakarta. • Wayang Museum: A museum dedicated to the art of wayang kulit, a traditional Indonesian shadow puppetry. • Bank Indonesia Museum: A museum dedicated to the history of banking in Indonesia. • Sunda Kelapa Harbor: A historic harbor that was once the main port of Batavia. • Glodok: Jakarta's Chinatown, and a great place to try Chinese food. • Kota Intan Bridge: A pedestrian bridge that offers views of the Ciliwung River. The lack of planning in the Kota Tua Jakarta area is a major problem. This is due to a number of factors, including: • Lack of coordination and cooperation: There is no clear division of responsibilities between the various agencies and organizations involved in the management of Kota Tua Jakarta. This has led to a lack of coordination and cooperation, which has made it difficult to address the area's many problems. • Lack of funding: Kota Tua Jakarta is a large and complex area, and it requires significant funding to be properly maintained and developed. However, the government has not provided enough funding to address the area's needs. • Lack of public awareness: Many people are not aware of the importance of Kota Tua or the need to preserve it. This lack of awareness has made it difficult to gain public support for the area's development. Some of the specific problems that have resulted from the lack of planning in Kota Tua Jakarta include: • Poor cleanliness: The area is often dirty and littered, which can be a turnoff for visitors. • Lack of security: The area can be unsafe at night, which can deter visitors from visiting after dark. • Lack of parking: There is not enough parking available in the area, which can make it difficult for visitors to get around. • Lack of amenities: The area lacks basic amenities such as public restrooms and restaurants, which can make it a less enjoyable experience for visitors. To address these problems, it is important to improve coordination and cooperation between the various agencies and organizations involved in the management of Kota Tua Jakarta. The government should also provide more funding to the area, and it should raise public awareness of the importance of Kota Tua Jakarta. Kota Tua Jakarta is a fascinating place to visit, with a rich history and a unique atmosphere. It is a reminder of Jakarta's past as a major colonial city, and it is well worth a visit for anyone who wants to learn more about the history of Indonesia.

Beautiful, historical district that is located in the centre of Jakarta city. Some Dutch architecture is in the buildings you can see on the site. You might hire some bicycles to explore the place. There's a main reason for me to come there other than the vibes of the place itself; "Es Selendang Mayang" was available there, and it was really, really good! I literally had three glasses in a go! It's typical of a "Jakarta old-time" dessert: crushed ice with pudding and syrup. For food, you don't have to worry; varieties of food are being offered there on the side of the streets and in every corner of the area, or you can sit back and relax at New Batavia Café if you want to get a little bit of privacy. Since the area is pretty crowded most of the time,. Some shops were available if you looked for souvenirs, clothing, and other items. The price wasn't bad at all! And another thing that was an attraction over there was street performers; you could take pictures with them if you liked.

BEWARE OF FAKE TOUR GUIDE SCAM! Kota Tua Jakarta is a must-visit, offering rich historical insights, particularly at the Jakarta History (Fatahillah) Museum. However, visitors should be cautious of unofficial tour guides preying on tourists. We encountered an individual named Daniel (pictured below in the middle), who presented himself as a local guide. He engaged us by discussing similarities with our home country and religion and spoke fluent English. Although he provided a quick tour around notable spots like the tram tracks, the post office, and the main square, his authenticity was questionable. The experience took an uncomfortable turn when he demanded RM50 (about USD$10) per person at the end of the tour. This incident was a clear red flag indicating his unofficial status. Advice: Always verify the credentials of tour guides at Kota Tua Jakarta to ensure a safe and informative visit.

Although its crowded but its still fun. U can rent bicycle only 20k for 30 minutes, enjoy the live music, sit around, visit the museum [wayang, fatahillah or keramik], and take selfie with many themed props provided by stand attandends [hero, princess etc]. There are many food stalls such us KFC, Kafe Betawi, Indomaret Bakso Aci Ganteng etc. Inside POS Building, there are many stand which sell many kind of stuffs [souvenir, batik, toys etc] Dont forget for praying when Prayer calling is coming. There are 2 musholla here [behind of cafe betawi and inside POS building], make sure you've been ready 10 minutes before praying started because of long queue when taking holy water. Dont litter here, ensure your garbage is thrown well. I hate poeple who litter with their such of waste. I will curse you to be Monkey Enjoy
