Kota Tua Jakarta (also known as Old Batavia or Batavia Lama) is a historical district in North Jakarta, Indonesia, located on the northern edge of the city, encompassing the 17th-century Dutch colonial center of the city and its surroundings. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited areas in Jakarta and the largest concentration of surviving 17th and 18th-century buildings in Indonesia.
History
In 1619, the Dutch East India Company (VOC) established a trading post in the area, which was then known as Sunda Kelapa. The post quickly grew into a major trading center, and in 1621, the VOC decided to build a fortified city around it. The city was named Batavia, after the Batavian tribe that inhabited the area.
Batavia was the capital of the Dutch East Indies from 1621 to 1942. During this time, the city grew into a major commercial and cultural center. It was also a center of Dutch colonial power in Asia.
In 1942, during the Second World War, Japanese forces occupied Batavia. The city was renamed Jakarta in 1945, after Indonesia declared its independence from the Netherlands.
Today, Kota Tua Jakarta is a popular tourist destination. The district is home to a number of historical landmarks, including the Fatahillah Museum, the Wayang Museum, and the Bank Indonesia Museum. It is also home to a number of restaurants, cafes, and shops.

However, the government has not provided enough funding to address the area's needs. • Lack of public awareness: Many people are not aware of the importance of Kota Tua or the need to preserve it. This lack of awareness has made it difficult to gain public support for the area's development.
Some of the specific problems that have resulted from the lack of planning in Kota Tua Jakarta include:
• Poor cleanliness: The area is often dirty and littered, which can be a turnoff for visitors. • Lack of security: The area can be unsafe at night, which can deter visitors from visiting after dark. • Lack of parking: There is not enough parking available in the area, which can make it difficult for visitors to get around. • Lack of amenities: The area lacks basic amenities such as public restrooms and restaurants, which can make it a less enjoyable experience for visitors.

Beautiful, historical district that is located in the centre of Jakarta city. Some Dutch architecture is in the buildings you can see on the site. You might hire some bicycles to explore the place. There's a main reason for me to come there other than the vibes of the place itself; "Es Selendang Mayang" was available there, and it was really, really good! I literally had three glasses in a go! It's typical of a "Jakarta old-time" dessert: crushed ice with pudding and syrup.
For food, you don't have to worry; varieties of food are being offered there on the side of the streets and in every corner of the area, or you can sit back and relax at New Batavia Café if you want to get a little bit of privacy. Since the area is pretty crowded most of the time,.
Some shops were available if you looked for souvenirs, clothing, and other items. The price wasn't bad at all!
And another thing that was an attraction over there was street performers; you could take pictures with them...
