We decided last minute to go white water rafting while in Ubud. We picked Sobek based on great online reviews and had the BEST TIME with them! HIGHLY recommend this experience! Couple of things stood out about Sobek: Extremely organized operation. From pick-up at hotel, to safety briefing and handing out equipment, and afterwards hot showers & towels, delicious buffet lunch, and return to hotel -- everything was SO well organized! They also put all your stuff in a dry bag and take it down river for you. Our river guide, Candy, was awesome! We felt 100% safe and he gave us great instructions on when to paddle and when to take a break (and didn't make us work too hard). He also took photos of us when we stopped along the river, since don't recommend having your phone out on the river The river and sceneary were gorgeous. The Ayung river runs deep through a lush, tropical gorge. Tons of amazing waterfalls, including getting out to stand under one. We had originally debated whether we would spend the day driving to different water falls or rafting, and SO glad we went with the rafting because we got to see some phenomenal waterfalls AND white water raft. The amount of "thrills" was just right for our family with two teens. A few drops and some thrilling patches, but nothing too scary.
Total time on the water was about 1.5 hours, with an hour up front for getting there and checking in (will vary depending on where you stay), and then we took about another 75 minutes afterwards to shower and eat -- that is at your own pace and they don't rush you. They also take some "action" photos from the shore towards the end (they were good!), which you can purchase for an addition ~USD 15 for all of them, so you'll come away with some...
Read moreWe really enjoyed our rafting experience. It was very fun and felt extremely safe. The rapids were quite mild. Our instructor was funny, very sweet, and we felt completely safe and in control with him steering. A van came and picked us up. The driver was also kind and safe. Make sure you bring a change of clothes. You will get wet and there are showers at the end. Had I known this I would have brought clothes to change so we could have continued our day straight from there. The only draw backs were the "included" lunch. The food was cold - not great when your serving fish and chicken. Not only was it not tasty but I worried it would make me sick. It tasted like I was eating Panda Express. There are so many great restaurants in Bali I wanted to skip the free lunch and leave. When we tried to leave without eating they looked at us like we were crazy. The second draw back is the price. It's a bit steep. I would not do this again for the price alone - $100 each. I would say $50-$65 would be more appropriate. The $200 we spent could have bought us a few more days in Bali doing plenty of other fun things that are much lest costly. That being said, it was beautiful and fun. If this is your cup of tea, I highly...
Read moreTook my 10 yo twins for the 1st time so I was looking for something more subtle as their first experience and this was perfect for us. It’s good enough excitement & making a good 1st impression how rafting should feel. When we were there, there wasn’t any other family with kids so we pretty much in a raft by ourself. Bang-Bang was excellent and patience, matching with the level of kids excitement. The view are breathtaking and was lucky enough to see monkeys hanging and checking on us. Usually they take a break somewhere (to give local a chance selling drinks/snacks) ... while you aren’t obliged to buy the overly price items but do understand that this was the seller main income and the labor they did to carry items from top mountain and bringing it down to river on daily basis. So I spend to just help them out. Then do TIPS your guide generously as they didn’t make much money and the maximum they can guide only 2x/day because of the length of this rafting during peak season (from time to time they don’t have enough guests) and also they carried your belongings during descend and ascend top mountain to...
