TEMUKU VILLAS UBUD — Attraction in Pulau Bali

This one feels a bit harsh but I have to be completely honest.

Starting with the good, the hotel location is very peaceful and the set up of the villa is great. Everyone has an individual villa with a private pool and a view (of their choosing, rice field or ‘jungle’). The potential of this place is unbelievable.

The staff on a day to day basis were extremely friendly and were a part of what made the stay bareable. The 24 hour buggy by WhatsApp is also a saviour considering it is down a bit of an odd road.

Unfortunately this is where the good ends. On numerous occasions there were stains on pillows, sheets, towels, blankets curtains, including very dirty pillows under the covers with mould. The curtains had unbelievable stains. The fridge in the kitchen had not seen any cleaning either in a long time apart from a basic wipe down.

The ceiling has spider webs that weren’t cleaned once during the time there and ants were crawling from behind the bed, not anywhere else in the room, meaning the maintenance wasn’t good (I’m aware ants are likely in rooms of this style, but behind the bed and not where there were clear gaps makes it even more confusing). This also included a dirty outdoor toilet with a number of stains in the toilet which show a lack of efficient cleaning.

The room clearly isn’t ’cleaned’ on a day to day basis, even though they contact you for cleaning. This is probably just a quick broom.

The pool wasn’t well maintained and the room overall had clear cracks and issues that means there hasn’t been a focus. This, along with being given mosquito, cockroach and ant killer for the nights due to the amount of ants near the bed was not the best touch to a long holiday away.

Unfortunately I think this all boils down to poor hotel management. When asking staff for a knife to cut fruit and being told there is only one in the kitchen, considering this kitchen also served other villas under separate names (based next door so likely same owner), it’s highly concerning and disappointing. The icing on the cake were the soggy fries with the club sandwich.

We thought this would be a dream location and it definitely has potential, but until it’s managed properly and cleaned, and things are put in place to give it that extra standard, I can’t recommend it. Spend the money elsewhere, but also consider that maybe the 4* cheap price is slightly lower than expected ...
