The two problems I have with First Ireland is the waiting time to get through to an agent and the uncertainty of what kind of agent I do get. There are some that genuinely couldn't give a damn and seem fed up to be helping you and then other times I get the most amazing/ helpful agents on the phone.
My last renewal I was quoted 1450 and when I rang one man said that was because I was in a collision six months prior and had a case open. I explained that me and the other driver of the vehicle agreed to pay our own damages as damage to my car was very little . My cars a bit of a Bangor so a little dent wasn't the end of the world to me. Anyways, the agent told me my renewal was so high because the case is still open and I said well can you close it, I have the text messages saying we agree to pay our own damages. He told me there was nothing he could do and that I have to pay my renewal by tomorrow.I asked to speak to a manager he said you can but he'll tell you the same thing, I said can you ring my insurer to close the claim he said I can but there's nothing they could do anyway. I mean this guys attitude was so rude I actually start getting upset. I hung up and I rang back only to get put through to another agent, who was WONDERFUL from the very start. I told him my story just as I did the other agent and finally I felt like I was being listened to. He said he thinks it was a small problem that he could fix with my main insurer. Around 5 minutes on hold, he picks up and said that's sorted for you now and my new renewal was 850. I wish I remembered his first name but his second name was O Flood. He was so kind and understanding and honestly he's the only reason I stayed with First Ireland. Because now I know his email and I will only deal with him from now on if I can lol. Sorry for the long winded essay I just hope someone in First Ireland might see this and tell some of there agents that kindness goes a long way and that for some of their costumers 600 is a LOT of money especially to be wasted on an inaccurate renewal.
When your dealing with them ask for O Flood. Hopefully there's...
Read moreI was with First Ireland over 15 years ago and they were great however this time around I had a bad experience. Firstly I have 8 years no claims bonus (lost previous 5 years as I was abroad for 2 years) I also have 0 penalty points. The insurance for a 2005 Audi A5 was €850 and I paid this upfront for the year and sent in my documents by email. I was told my cert would be sent in the post. Two weeks later I called the office and was told I hadn’t sent in my documents and my policy was due to be cancelled so I told them the time and date of my email and was then told they found it but I got no apology.
After being insured for a few weeks I had to change my address and was told I had to pay another €95 Then the following week I cancelled the policy as I needed a van for work and I was told to send in my insurance certificate. I went in personally on the Friday and gave in my documents and called them the following Wednesday to be told I was stil insured as I hadn’t paid the cancellation fee even though I was owed money I was told I had to pay the cancellation before I would be told how much I was due back. Even though I had no certificate and had gone in to cancel the policy. So I had to pay for an extra 4 days insurance. Terrible experience and would never go back or recommend any more of my friends as I...
Read moreCallas and indecent approach to customer service
It's been 10-days since my car insurance policy was cancelled with First Ireland, after many years of being a loyal customer. This was due to a miscommunication on direct debit details (not on no payments). One-I felt I had a fair explanation for and two- both parties, first Ireland and I had to blame. I was distressed by their callas and indecent approach to my situation. Due to this cancellation, I have been rejected by all car insurance companies, I have been on a 10-day goose chase trying to rectify this situation. I need to wait another three-working days to receive three denial letters from three different companies, to then apply to denials cases, of which will take longer. I am 33, I have been driving 10-years with no claims, and I am always up to date on payments. My awarded premium due to no-claims and a clean full driver’s licence was €395 with Aviva, this will now rise significantly, I am sure. I depend on my car for work, and domestic use and this has completely disrupted everything. I am aware that regulation is essential, but there should never be a one-size fits all solution. I felt so unheard and disregarded; the customer service is severely lacking. They understand they have the power in...
