Villa Erba — Attraction in Cernobbio

I feel it’s important to share my recent experience at Villa Erba, which unfortunately was very negative.

As an international visitor, I had always heard of Villa Erba’s reputation as a beautiful and prestigious location, well known for weddings and events. My partner and I were genuinely looking forward to seeing it in person. We arrived through the main entrance, which was open and had no clear signage suggesting restricted access. Believing in good faith that it was acceptable to step in for a brief look, we entered.

That’s when we encountered a staff member named Alex. We explained politely that we did not have a reservation and were ready to leave. Due to the entrance layout, we needed to move slightly forward before exiting. Instead of handling the situation with professionalism or courtesy, Alex’s reaction was extremely aggressive. He was smoking, speaking in a hostile tone, and making insulting remarks toward both myself and my partner. What could have been a simple, respectful exchange quickly turned into outright harassment.

This left us shocked and deeply uncomfortable, particularly my partner, who found the encounter quite upsetting. Given Villa Erba’s status and reputation, this behavior came as a complete surprise. Rather than feeling welcome or respected, we felt humiliated and intimidated — the exact opposite of what one would expect from such a historic and elegant venue.

We documented the incident here, including a photograph of the staff member, and are considering further reporting to local authorities if necessary. No visitor should ever leave an encounter at Villa Erba feeling this way. It’s a real shame, because Villa Erba is stunning and carries so much history. But unfortunately, the lack of hospitality and the unprofessional way we were treated by a staff member has overshadowed its beauty for us. The worst !! in my wedding day ther was no Ac in my getting ready room in 1st of august I was melting all my make up and hair was missed up and it was irresistibile they didn’t tell me that it has no Ac , the lake was back and dry and the view for our ceremony was ugly and they told me that in august the lake is most beautiful and water will be full behind us ( just the opposite) they told me that I need permission for the fire works at the last moment and I had no time to request for it , they double us the price for every invoice for no clue reason all the prices changed after we booked the villa , literally everything changed before our wedding and they know that we have no other choice but to make it happen cause we already invited the people and the time was so short to change the location for our wedding ,my husband started to look for another place all was booked already cause it was unfortunately too late for that .. was very very bad experience with them a lot more to say but think that’s enough to be rated not even 1 star and I regret a lot dealing with such an unprofessional careless place that caused us lots of troubles , irritation and embarrassment I don’t suggest them...
