Terrace Delights
Our party of four recently dined at the restaurant nestled under the famous Wysteria trees, enjoying a table on the terrace. We were here in the past, when the owners (a family) were still present during the evening. This evening we did not see them. The ambiance was as enchanting as we remembered , with the fragrant blooms adding a touch of natural beauty to our dining experience. The restaurant still has an extensive wine list, featuring what seems to be over 1 000 options (not sure I did not count but extensive!) This was making the sommelier's expertise crucial to navigate the selection.
While the pricey dishes we ordered were undeniably tasteful and elegantly presented, we found them to be on the simpler side, which made their high prices a bit difficult to justify. However, the setting on the terrace provided a lovely atmosphere and allowed us to soak in the surrounding beauty.
Paid parking was conveniently available indoors almost around the corner. We appreciated this option, as it made our visit more convenient and stress-free.
When it came time to select a wine, we relied on the expertise of the sommelier. Initially, they suggested wines in the 120-150 euro range. Wanting something more modestly priced yet smooth, light, fresh, and with a vivid finish on the tongue, I requested a recommendation in line with those preferences. Ultimately, the sommelier proposed the 70€ Pinot Nero Schweizer from Alto Adige. Regrettably, it turned out to be too dry and overly oaky for our taste, not quite matching the description I had provided.
While we thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience at the restaurant, the high prices of the dishes combined with the sommelier's suggestion missing the mark a bit left us feeling slightly disappointed. We hope that the restaurant takes customer feedback into account and further refines their offerings to match the quality and expectations set by their enchanting terrace and extensive wine selection.
We will be back, and for a next visit we will probably stick to one of the wines that were mentioned on the main menu, not the wine list. They do have wines starting from around 30€ per bottle. So definitely...
Read moreI started dining at Glicine nearly 10 years ago. It was my favourite restaurant in Italy. The beautiful setting of lake Como, the gorgeous background of violet Glicine blossoms outside the restaurant when they are season (the italian equivalent of Cherry Blossom season in Japan) … but this is nothing next to the quality and art of chef and owner Francesco Pozzi when it was all about the passion for classic and traditional italian cuisine. I am told the establishment now has a new chef (which explains the change) and alas my dinner tonight, will be my last. I would rather live with the memories of my past experiences than have to endure any more of the modern concussion of flavours that do not sit well together nor pay homage to centuries perfecting italian cuisine. I guess everything in life has to evolve and the place still attracts a lot of customers although clearly a different type of clientele. I wish them the best in this new direction but this is...
Read moreThis restaurant really impressed me. First off, the patio is beautiful with trees and lights strung throughout it. The staff is very friendly and provided wonderful service from the minute we arrived. They were all knowledgeable about the dishes, and the food was unforgettable.
My personal favorite was the sausage risotto. It was honestly the best risotto I have ever had in my life. The wine list was impressive, and all of the food we had was phenomenal. I would recommend anyone visiting Lake Como to make the trip to this restaurant.
This restaurant would be awesome for private events as it has a large patio and two levels of indoor seating.
You can tell the staff really cares about the guest experience. It shows from the service they provide, the food they serve, and all the smiles I saw from customers while eating dinner. I will absolutely be back the next time I visit Lake Como. This was the most memorable dinner I...
