Museo Civico Ala Ponzone — Attraction in Cremona

The museum is in a beautiful big villa wie in the middle of the city centre. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The entrance fee of 7€is okay, I guess. The exhibition, well, there are no english descriptions for the pictures or pieces. You have to download an app for a fully guidance of the museum in different languages. They advertise with Arcimboldo, a famous Italian painter. They One picture of him. O N E !!! The guitar exhibition is interesting but I don't like seeing 20 pieces one after another just because they look slightly different. Of course, they are amazingly built from very ancient times... No paintings from this time work the guitars on it or how they have been played or how they have been built... No story behind it. Yes, a little bit in Italian....but very nice rooms of the villa. The Japanese porcelain exhibition is quite a sight worth. People who are interested in clerical, ecclesiastical art will be happy to find a...

Just incredible. Could easily spend more than the 2 hours spent there. Its huge and so diverse. A part of it didn't expect that much, just amazing. The drawings, the painting collection of so many periods and such diverse painters, the sculptures, the porcelain, the decorations but also the building itself... Leaves you in awe. Also the last room in grey shades with the piano or the guitar collection with the history of these instruments gives you a lot. Definitely on the list if you go to Cremona. Some rooms very cold while others very warm, maybe they can improve that. Toilets, clean, place to charge the mobile phone, friendly staff, very quiet and...

Il Museo Civico Ala Ponzone si trova in un elegante palazzo cinquecentesco nel cuore della città. Il nucleo centrale della collezione deriva dal lascito del marchese Sigismondo Ala Ponzone; ma nel tempo il museo si è andato arricchendo grazie ai dipinti provenienti da numerose chiese della zona e da benefattori privati. Il percorso museale, attraverso sale modernamente organizzate, conduce alla scoperta dell’arte e della scultura dall’epoca medioevale al Novecento; la raccolta di dipinti e sculture conta oggi più di duemila pezzi. e custodisce alcuni capolavori come il celebre “San Francesco in meditazione” del Caravaggio, o l’emblematico “Ortolano” di Giuseppe Arcimboldo. Un recente intervento ha portato all’apertura della Sala del Platina dove è possibile ammirare un capolavoro dell'arte lignea rinascimentale, il prezioso armadio intarsiato eseguito per la Cattedrale di Cremona tra il 1477 e il 1480 dall’artista mantovano Giovanni Maria da Piadena, detto il Platina. La Sala di San Domenico ospita una serie di opere provenienti dalla demolita chiesa dei frati predicatori mentre in un’ala del museo è possibile visitare le stanze per la Musica, dove si trova la collezione privata di Carlo Alberto Carutti, composta da più di sessanta strumenti, alcuni dei quali appartenuti a noti collezionisti, musicisti ed esponenti dell'aristocrazia e .che costituisce una delle più importanti raccolte di strumenti a corda per qualità, rarità e stato di conservazione.
